Jimin Reaches New Heights: First Asian Soloist in 60 Years to Rank #1 on Billboard Hot 100

Jimin is continuing to make waves with his solo debut album 'FACE,' his main single 'Like Crazy' and his B-side track 'Set Me Free Pt.2.' It has previously been reported on all the unprecedented and historical records that he has set on numerous major music charts and music platforms worldwide including on iTunes, Oricon, Melon, Spotify and many others, with the biggest daily and weekly streaming or sales debut for any Korean soloist. He has also registered new records on various country-specific official albums and/or singles charts, including in big music markets like the UK, Germany, Japan, Italy, France, and many others.

This record-breaking streak has not slowed down and is only getting better and better as more and more countries announce their weekly charts, his album having been released just over a week ago. This time all eyes shifted to the USA official charts, which is the biggest music market in the world! The USA's Billboard charts, for albums and singles, are considered to be the most competitive charts globally, and any artist who manages to make it onto the charts has every reason to celebrate and be proud of their accomplishment. It becomes an even bigger celebration if an artist happens to shoot to the top of these charts, and this became the case with Jimin!

On April 3, Billboard revealed its charts for the week dated April 8, including the major charts like Hot 100, Global 200, Global 200 (Excl. US), Digital Song Sales, World Digital Song Sales, and others.

Jimin made history with his single 'Like Crazy,' which blasted to the top of the Hot 100 chart, which is the chart that draws the most attention in the music industry! By ranking #1 on the chart, it became his first #1 in his solo music career, and a 7th, including those earned with his group, BTS. The song was 20 points clear of the #2 song, which was quite a significant gap.

With this revelation, Jimin now becomes the First and Only Korean Soloist to ever reach #1 on this chart which has been in existence for the past 65 years. The only other Korean act to achieve a #1 in the chart's history was his own group BTS, making him the second Korean act overall to achieve it.  Additionally, Jimin also becomes the Only Asian Soloist in the past 60 years to ever accomplish this. The last time that an Asian soloist topped this chart was in 1963.

Having taken part in the writing of the song, Jimin also earned his first #1 as a songwriter on the Hot 100 chart.

'Like Crazy' topped the chart with 254k sales, marking the biggest sales week for any Korean soloist in the USA and the biggest sales debut week of the year 2023. This was 3 times more than the previous sales record of the year. In effect, the high sales figure saw Jimin rank #1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, making it his 3rd solo #1 hit on the chart after 'With You' and 'Set Me Free Pt.2', and thus made him the Korean Soloist with the most #1 hits on the chart. Jimin also ranked 3rd among the biggest pure sales weeks for any single in the USA this decade and 2nd among the K-pop acts with the biggest sales weeks in the USA, but still maintained his record as the biggest pure sales for any Korean soloist in history in the USA!

Overall, Jimin owned the first and fifth best-selling songs in the USA for the week, and all songs from the album ranked in the Top 15 best-selling songs of the week as per the Digital Song Sales Chart ranking.

Jimin also ranked #1 on the World Digital Song Sales Chart, having already achieved this previously with 'Filter' his solo performance under BTS' discography. Five of his songs made entries onto this week's World Digital Song Sales chart.

On the Global 200 and Global 200 (Excl. US) charts, he ranked #2, his highest charting position on the charts as a soloist, and also set a record as the highest charting Korean Male soloist on both charts.  Four of his other songs also made entries on both charts.

His album 'FACE' registered 164k sales units with 124k pure sales in the USA, earning him #1 on the Top Album Sales Chart, the Top Current Album Sales Chart, and the World Albums Chart. It is the first album by a Korean male soloist to debut at #1 on the Top Album Sales chart.

This also landed the album at #2 on Billboard 200 chart, becoming the highest-ranking album by a Korean soloist in the history of the chart, and the biggest sales debut week with a debut album for any artist on the chart, since 2021.

In other news, 'FACE' also ranked first on the Monthly Hanteo Physical Album Chart, where Jimin made history as the first soloist to sell over a million album units in a single day.

Fans are over the moon with the success of Jimin's first solo album and are looking forward to more accolades coming up for the artist.

Congratulations Jimin!
