The '2022 Genie Music Awards' will take place quietly without a red carpet event or press to mourn for the Itaewon tragedy

The '2022 Genie Music Awards', returning this year in-person for the first time in 3 years, will resume as planned on November 8 beginning at 7 PM KST; but it won't be quite the same. 

On November 4, the '2022 Genie Music Awards' announced,

"First and foremost, we pray that those who passed on to the afterlife due to the tragic accident are resting in peace, and we offer our condolences to the grieving families.

We sincerely pray that no more victims will have their lives taken away like this, and we wish for the speedy recovery of all of the injured.

In light of the tragic incident, the nation has declared a period of mourning.

The 'Genie Music Awards', in our hope to partake in the mourning of the lost, will proceed with the award ceremony as quietly and as calmly as possible.

But in order to fulfill the promise made to fans who have waited for the '2022 Genie Music Awards', taking place in-person for the first time in 3 years, the award ceremony will be reduced to its smallest capacity, and both the red carpet event and press coverage have been cancelled."

Previously, the '2022 Genie Music Awards' announced the following attending artists for this year's ceremony: Red Velvet, (G)I-DLE, IVE, The Boyz, Be'O, Girls' Generation's Taeyeon, DKZ, NCT Dream, Psy, Jaurim, TNX, and LIGHTSUM.
