On January 8, Gaon Chart and its parent association, the Korea Music Contents Association (KMCA), published its official 2020 yearly chart recap.
1. The #1 Song of 2020
According to this 2020 recap, Zico's "Any Song" earned a triple crown this past year as the #1 digital single of 2020, the most downloaded song of 2020, as well as the most streamed song of 2020.
In addition, songs which simultaneously topped both the weekly digital singles chart and the weekly streaming chart for up to 5 weeks straight in 2020 included: Zico's "Any Song", SSAK3's "Beach Again", BTS's "Dynamite" (7-weeks straight), and "VVS (Feat. JUSTHIS, Prod. by GroovyRoom)" by 'Show Me The Money 9'.
2. The #1 Album of 2020
The honor of the yearly Gaon Chart's official #1 album of 2020 went to BTS's 'Map of the Soul: 7'. This year marked the 5th consecutive year that BTS has topped Gaon Chart's yearly album sales chart, as the group has consistently ranked #1 on the yearly album sales chart since 2016 with 'WINGS'. BTS's 'Map Of The Soul: 7' also marks the first ever Korean album in the history of the Gaon Chart to earn the title of a 'Quadruple Million Selling' album.
3. The Most Listened-To Artists of 2020
In 2020, the most listened-to artists on various Korean music streaming platforms were BTS and IU. BTS recorded the most number of songs in Gaon Chart's yearly Top 200 songs list for 2020 at 19 tracks, while IU followed up with the second most number of songs at 8 tracks.
4. The Artist Who Released The Most Albums in 2020
In 2020, K-Pop group NCT released a total of 5 physical albums including albums by NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT 2020. All 5 physical albums have been certified by Gaon Chart for notable album sales, and the group recorded a total of 4.5 million album sales total in 2020.
5. The Most Beloved OST of 2020
The most beloved OST album of 2020 went to the OST album of tvN's 'Hospital Playlist'. A total of 8 tracks from the 'Hospital Playlist' OST album, including Jo Jung Suk's "Aroha", ended up on Gaon's yearly Top 200 digital singles chart.
