Kim Min Joo's label Urban Works reportedly shutting down all acting management activities due to financial strain

According to an exclusive report on December 27, entertainment label Urban Works will be shutting down all acting management activities by April of 2019.

Urban Works is known as the label of currently active IZ*ONE member Kim Min Joo, as well as solo artist  Kriesha Chu. Its acting management side is made up of 8 artists - Kim Eung Soo, Choi Kyu Hwan, film director Bong Man Dae, Lee Cho Ah, Choi Soo Han, Lee Bit Na, Shin So Yi, and Han Seo Wool

Recently, its been revealed that the above actors were notified of Urban Works's plans to halt its acting management activities soon. Several of the label's employees have departed the label already, and the decision was allegedly made due to financial strains. Meanwhile, Urban Works will continue with its music artist management, and Kim Min Joo and Kriesha Chu will remain as label artists.

One insider stated, "The domestic management business is not looking good these days. Some are even saying, '30% of all management companies may be gone or merged with bigger labels by next year'."

It sounds harsh but it'll probably be better for the artists in the long run, a lot of these smaller companies have really shady practices...

i feel sad for Kriesta. but hopefully Min Joo’s income as IZONE for the next 2.5 years will help out the agency a bit.

This is a shame, but it's not all that shocking. This is happening to other smaller companies as well, this one in particular is getting such attention due to the success of one of their artists in IZ*ONE. That being said, this was bound to happen sooner or later. With the constant boom and growth of the K-pop industry, everyone has been itching to get a piece of the pie, to find the next big thing. When you hear stories about smaller companies managing to break into the larger industry, such as Big HIt, it adds fuel to the fire but it just isn't manageable in the long run for so many smaller companies. The market is oversaturated, so it was bound to bottom out. I wish those managed under them well, hopefully they will be picked up by another company.

Whelp, it’s a good thing Minju is promoting in IZ*one and locked in a contract for 2 1/2 years. Gives Urban Works time to striaghten things out and/or her time to get out of the company if it is indeed struggling.

If this is the case i would like Kriesha Chu and Kim Min Joo transfer to JYP or YG. Their talent was above expected their so much potential on them.

If I were Kriesha and Kim Min Joo I’d try and get off that sinking ship now

they can’t. unlike actors who don’t OWE the agency anything. the idols owe the agency for their training fees. so until they clear it they have to pay a penalty to leave.

That's not strictly true it depends on whether the company trained the actors or not, Urban Works is actually an acting company that did do training and development in that area, music for them is a recent development.

This means they are giving up their principle business and only keeping their side business which is interesting to say the least but not surprising since they don't have to do anything for Min joo because she is being managed by Pledis under the name Off The Record, I would be more worried for Kriesha

Minjoo doesn't need to worry. After izone, she'll probably marry a rich guy.
