Song Joong Ki became an even bigger star--if that's possible at all--after his role in the popular drama 'Descendants of the Sun,' but interestingly enough someone else might have been in his spotlight.
Lee Eung Bok, the producer in charge of the drama said in a March 31 interview with Xinhua News Agency, "When we were choosing the male leads, Song Joong Ki wasn't one of our considerations," reasoning that the actor was far from the image of the burly and brawny character that they had in mind.

Production had sent offers to various other top stars before they made an offer to Song Joong Ki; however, many actors whom they extended an offer to were uncomfortable about the entirety of the drama being recorded in pre-production (as opposed to filming each episode as the drama airs) and about the military-related role.
Lee Eung Bok explained, "At the time we were considering casting someone who is the opposite of the original image we had in mind, Song Joong Ki was discharged from military service. Not only is he really handsome but he also really liked the script. I think Song Joong Ki's bold persona and his quick action is capturing the hearts of all the viewers."
I bet Lee Eung Bok is now very satisfied with his choice!
