Actress Go Hyun Jung, currently playing the main villain, Mishil in MBC's Queen Seon Duk has been served with a lawsuit. Lee Kim Productions had filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Central Court in April, asking for 5.6 billion KRW including contract fees and penalties as compensation from Go Hyun Jung, for not following through with her contract.
Lee Kim Productions explained on the 20th, "Even though Go Hyun Jung has already accepted our offer to be the female lead for Daemul, she then goes on to take a role in Queen Seon Duk without telling us about it. This has had an impact on our production of Daemul. We are seeking compensation for damages caused."
Go Hyun Jung's management rebutted the claim made by Lee Kim, "Go Hyun Jung is ready to step in whenever the production of Daemul is ready. It's pretty ridiculous of them to file a lawsuit before they have even prepared anything for filming."
Go Hyun Jung had signed with Lee Kim Productions to headline Daemul together with Kwon Sang Woo in March last year. The plan was to broadcast the drama in May 2008 but numerous problems pertaining to its budget, PDs, and filming locations delayed the production from taking off and it was subsequently dropped by SBS. It was announced by Lee Kim Productions in April 2009 that the production of Daemul will be restarted and they were aiming for a broadcast date by the end of 2009.
With the fate of Daemul uncertain back then, was it wrong of Go Hyun Jung to look for another project? She certainly struck gold in her role as Mishil in Queen Seon Duk and should send her Hwarangs after them. Kwon Sang Woo should be free to take up the offer now since he's not tied to any projects at the moment. Lee Kim Productions are currently producing the Yoon Eun Hye-led My Fair Lady and also have a bit of history with causing Park Shin Yang to be banned indefinitely from acting in Korea.
