Girls' Generation's debut single, "Into The New World," that was released back on August 3, 2007, has suddenly risen to #1 on the music charts.

SEE ALSO: Girls' Generation's 'I Got a Boy' reaches 1 million likes!

With the scandal involving the Korean president (read more about that here), University students from around the nation gathered and protested, blasting "Into The New World" from their speakers.

With this, the nearly 10-year-old song received a sudden surge in downloads and placed #1 on Melon's real-time charts.

As the song talks about sadness with obstacles away on the road into a new world, you can see why the protesters selected this song as a rally-cry.

i saw it too. it seems that many Once were making fun of Taeyeon for not winning on Inkigayo. Onc ewere saying things ike 'certain 9 year senior cant even beat 2 year Girl Group'. This was very insulting noting that taeyeon didnt even have any albums sold but maxed out the 1 chart

IKR. really sad to see this kind of things. BG like Exo and BTS dont even make fun of Big Bang. Really hope they are fake fans cause that would be humiliating for Twice f they find out that their seniors were disrespected.

SNSD must be so proud of this TT Into the New World is really such a touching song in this hard time and they must be so proud to be able to give courage to all these people TT

I'm not sure how SNSD feels about this. While they love people rediscovering their debut, they may feel uneasy that the song will be identified with a political event.

They won't get in trouble for this, plus they are Korean, they must feel as betrayed as all those people.
