MBC aired the 'Idol Chef King' Chuseok special on September 14, and 217 idol stars competed in the huge cooking battle!

SEE ALSO: BTS share each other's charming points, changes in group dynamics, and collaborations

The three teams that made the top out of all the competition were ZE:A's Kwanghee and I.B.I's Hyeri, BTOB's Sungjae and Eunkwang, and SISTAR's Soyu and Cosmic Girl's Dayoung. Though miss A's Fei was expected by all the judges to be one of the strongest idol cooks, she unfortunately didn't make the final battle.

The final three teams were given the secret missions to use dried persimmon, sweet pumpkin, and jujubees, and Kwanghee and Hyeri made their own tteokgalbi, Soyu and Dayoung made carbonara, and Sungjae and Eunkwang cooked up some pasta.

In the end, Sungjae's team placed 3rd, Soyu's team came 2nd, and Kwanghee took the title of 'Idol Chef King' with Hyeri's help. Congratulations to Kwanghee!

if Fei were able to reach the top 3, she would have won it. the master chef judges praised her persimin punch in the finale.

Congrats! Really surprised Fei didn't get higher, maybe it was because she couldn't work everything she wanted to with a partner, but of course, everyone makes mistakes, and new talents will always come out :D

I think I resevered the right to be annoyed at AKP a while back... did he seriously have to go all this way for AKP to write a non-scornful article about Kwanghee? I mean, I read every single article they wrote about this show, not a single one mentioned Kwanghee's participation and I was in the comments for most of them wondering why he wasn't MC-ing this one (he has a lot of cooking show experience... but not so much in competition)... I bet if he didn't win, no one would have even knew he competed in this show... Proud of Kwanghee, disappointed (or maybe sad that they did exactly what I expected) of AKP

Knew Kwanghee would win before I even knew he was going to take place in this competition, just by listening to the title. So proud of Kwanghee. While he once came up with some pretty gross dishes for Happy Together years ago, as the only idol with to have ever MC'ed THAT many cooking shows, solo and partnered, I would have been sincerely disappointed in him if he learned nothing over these past few years. Well served as a cooking show MC. Keep going~~

Well, he had his own internet cooking show "Kwanghee's Love Recipe," before he left it to host "Best Recipe" on EBS, which he has hosted for over a year now. He was also co-MC for "Avatar Chef" and won a Happy Together Late Night Snack segment, and is generally known as the "Cooking-dol," so it's really no surprise that he won this too.  He won both rounds, and ended with score of 92.61 out of 100. The guy can obviously cook.

Oh, I forgot he was also a co-MC for 'Olive TV,' and "Guide for those lost at the market." He really has hosted a lot of cooking/food related stuff.

Before he won the one Late Night Snack segment once, you ignored the 3 other disastrous failures credited to Kwanghee, one or two of which made it to the Wall of Shame... but you're right, he did his fans proud

Oh, I'm aware. The bean paste sandwich on Happy Together (LOL!) and his attempt to make fish on WGM. But that was long before he starting hosting cooking shows and learning how to cook, so that's why I didn't mention it. But yes, before he was quite terrible at it.

an unexpected winner, maybe Hyeri did most of the cooking. would have thought Fei and Dahyun would have made it to the last 3 at least. i guess taste is very personal and varied from judge to judge.

Kwanghee has actually hosted quite a few cooking shows. He's currently on a daily cooking show, so he has a lot of experience with cooking~

Kwanghee is probably the most experienced TV-cooking idol, he is the MC for several cooking shows, by himself and with a partner. For the past ... 2-3 years, his most constant appearances was his constant supply of cooking shows

Yes, hosting cooking shows and being actually Good at cooking is 2 different things, one holds the Mike to talk, the other holds the wok to cook. But its nice to know he is a good cook through this program.

The one show he is doing in EBS doesn't only require him to host but he needs to assist the chef also. Through this process he is also being taught by the chefs. A few months back EBS added a new segment of the show where every Friday he and the chef will both have to cook the dishes. He started hosting this one last March 2015 and I tried watching some of the earliest episodes of that show and comparing it to now, he really has improved a lot. From his knife skills, pan flipping etc.

I watched the show live yesterday. Kwanghee was scared of Fei (he sees her as his biggest competition). While watching the show I think Fei is more skillful than Kwanghee in terms of cooking. Most of the chefs were amazed by her unfortunately they failed to fry the food right that is probably the reason they lost. But the judges commented that the flavor was really good despite that mistake. And Hyeri did not do most of the cooking, Kwanghee did. But Hyeri did well in "assisting him". Funny thing is that when most of the participants brought their own group members as their assistant but idols like Kwanghee, Fei, and B1A4 Sandeul brought their respective companies hoobaes as their assistant. It's quite obvious what their companies were trying to do especially when you know for a fact that they have members that has zero schedules and you can't help yourself to wonder why they didn't bring them instead.

Um... when we say he is hosting a cooking show solo, it means he just keeps talking and yammering on while he is cooking. 2 of his cooking shows don't have any guests while he just makes stuff. Another show I heard from someone was a daily one where he is partnered with an older lady, they do equal amounts of work so, as far as Kwanghee is concerned, hosting a cooking show and actually being able to cook are the same thing

um.. in Kwanghee's case, his members probably may of actually been busy. If he brought Kevin (who can cook pretty well), the spotlight would have been stolen, Siwan, Hyungsik, and Dongjun are all filming something, Taehyun and Minwoo are in the military, Junyoung is off doing his own thing, and Heechul never really does variety without at least 2 other members (or maybe he's working on his solo stuff). Company's decision, if he can't bring a group member, better to bring the most currently relevant person in their company who isn't currently promoting.

Well nice to know that, i guess the idea of the idol cooking show is to let viewers see the cooking skills of some idols whom we dun know are good cooks. I am thinking this IDOL Cooking Contest, should be a annual Chuseok thing to replace the Idol Athletics thing that cause so much injuries. at least cooking is a good skill to develop, regardless of male or female.

I don't expect Siwan, Hyungsik, Dongjun and Junyoung to come with him and I also know that Minwoo and Taehon are doing their military service. BTOB's Sungjae partner, BTOB Eunkwang, was also a good cook but I don't see any problem with it specifically stealing the spot light stuff. If they wanted a better chance on winning they could have sent Kevin with him. As for Heecheol, I'm not aware if he can cook at all but it would be fun if he came with him and see the both of them banter just like how they do it in the old days. During their early years like 2010-2011 Kwanghee and Heecheol would always be together on variety shows. Sorry but I don't agree with your statement that Heecheol does not do variety without at least 2 other members because he has been a regular cast of several variety shows before alone. Besides Hyeri they could have sent other S.E artists with him. My issue here, I watched the show and can see some awkwardness between Hyeri and Kwanghee which is really understandable. If they sent a Nine Muses member or even maybe an IMFACT member things would have been a little bit less awkward. IMFACT's Jian is actually a good cook so why not send him instead. Kwanghee probably knows IMFACT better than Hyeri. Through Produce 101, Hyeri must have revealed her potential to be a variety idol that is why they sent her to further promote her but if we talk about the increasing the chances of Kwanghee winning, I think other S.E. artists could have been a better choice. But nonetheless Hyeri did well too but I can still other S.E. artists doing a better job than she did. There are other S.E. artists that needs some promotion too.

Nine muses did take part. Sojin and hyemi. Hyeri was representing ibi. As for the team, if I am not wrong the 8 finalist were given the choice to choose who will assist them that was present in the show itself and kwanghee decided to choose hyeri over sojin and hyemi.

And ibi is under loen, so technically she was send to take part in the show by loen and not SE

Sorry, my bad I was not aware of that rule. So that pretty much explains the pairings for both Fei and Kwanghee. Hyemi must be busy with her musical (Hyemi would be probably be closest to Kwanghee out of all the three). Well for both Sojin and Hyeri (high chance of being awkward to either of them), I guess Hyeri must be the better cook so he opted to choose her though like you said is temporarily currently under LOEN Ent. because of I.B.I and probably it would be easier to ask her to do stuffs for him since she is like 9 years younger than him.

I guess it might also be kh wants to help promote hyeri too since sojin won't really need much more promotion since more people are aware of nine muses as compared to hyeri.

EXO sent the exact two members who will blow up the entire kitchen even by innocently holding a pan. At this rate, I would be happy enough to know that they managed to prevent any burning from happening xDDDanyways congratulations to the winners!!

Junmyeon learned how to bake a bit, but that isn't the same as cooking. XD My poor bias.

Normally for these cooking contests and Especially since its a chuseok special, the focus is on Han-sik, Korean food, so if you are good cook at say, Fish and Chips, or Pizza or Chinese crusine like Ma-po tofu etc it may be a dis-advantage compared to another contestant doing Korean food, who will score higher and impress the judges
