EMERGENCY COUPLE EPISODE 12

When we last left our heroes, Chang Min was begging Jin Hee to stay. Well, she breaks down and agrees to stay at his place at least for 24 hrs to rest and recuperate. Which is a good thing, in part; like her, I still had reservations about it being his place. Why not a hotel? Granted, those are expensive, but it's not like he doesn't have money.

The next morning Chang Min wraps Jin Hee up in a blanket, bathes her, brushes her teeth, and feeds her. She shrugs off the blanket and eats voraciously without apparent pain. And that again is what I'm talking about. It's a bit creepy. In earlier episodes he was a domineering jerk and here, he's sort of taken control, as well. And that makes me uncomfortable. If she is not wincing in pain as she eats, then she's better. Although, on the other hand, she appears to enjoy the attention and I think what they intend to portray is that he's trying to take her back to better times.

Chang Min has gone through some real changes as this series progresses. I like it, but I think he has to go further. He learns to see patients in a new light. He chafes against his mother's control -- which is a very good thing. But he still has an inherent bossiness that I think he'll have to overcome to have any kind of chance with Jin Hee. Rather than ordering Dr. Guk not to be interested in Jin Hee, he needs to jockey for position. It's almost as if Chang Min feels that he can't compete, but he has one thing going for him that Dr. Guk does not: history with Jin Hee. But first he has to get over his control issues. Non-consensual kissing is a big no-no, and I have a feeling the first new scene we'll see next episode is a slap.

Did I call it about Jin Hee or what? She really doesn't feel the same about Chang Min as he does about her. As much as she remembers the good times, she also probably can't get past the way he harangued her, the way he made her feel. And she has a right to think that way and act accordingly. As humans, we tend to move toward pleasure and away from pain; she's running away from the pain he caused her. But she also has a thing for Dr. Gukand he for her, so there is that. New relationships are shiny things and that alone is hard to compete with. Every little thing that's good is magnified and the bad is often simply ignored, sugarcoated, or glossed-over.

Yong Gyu is heartbroken. Far from being amusing anymore, it's now sad. He's been told in no uncertain terms that Ah Reum does not return his feelings. Min Ki tells him not to give up, but Yong Gyu doesn't quite comprehend what's he's trying to say. I think eventually his moping will turn into something else, but what? I'm still banking on the stages of grief, but I'm not sure if I want that. It's possible that could turn him into a much darker character than he's intended to be.

Young Ae and her husband, Sang Hyuk, argue over having a child. Apparently she's pregnant. He likes it, she does not. She fully intends to pursue a career and resents Sang Hyuk's implication that she should stay home and take care of the kid. It appears that everything isn't paradise anymore -- a serpent has introduced strife. I have no idea where this is going. If I haven't mentioned them before, that's because they seemed to be very inconsequential to everything going on. Still, they make a very cute couple, and I hope they can patch things up quickly.

Tae Seok, Chang Min's father agrees to dine with his family and is full of attentiveness and kindness towards Sung Sook and the others. They tell him he's acting very strangely. I think he's dying, to be honest, and wants his last days on Earth to be good ones. That's the only reason I can think of for him acting this way. He's always been more concerned with his work than with anyone else and this is a serious attitude adjustment.

Though I hate myself for it, I'm almost rooting for Chang Min here. As much as I detested him before, now I think he's turning into a decent guy. Instead of yelling at Jin Hee, he's handling her with care now. But I think more than anything, he just needs to treat her like another human being. Rather than something fragile that requires tending to, he needs to just treat her like he would anyone else.
