Son Heung Min has officially joined MLS club LAFC, following a league-record $26.5 million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur. The move was confirmed on Wednesday, shortly after Son arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
At a press event attended by Mayor Karen Bass and other dignitaries, Son was welcomed as the newest face of LAFC. The former Tottenham captain appeared after receiving a loud reception at BMO Stadium the night before, when he was shown on the big screen during the match.
Around 40 fans gathered at LAX to greet Son on arrival. After 10 years with Tottenham, his move to LA makes him one of the most high-profile signings in MLS history. With the largest Korean population outside of Korea based in Los Angeles, many see LAFC as a natural fit for the South Korean star.
