South Korea triumphantly advanced to the semi-finals of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Australia at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah. The Taeguk Warriors demonstrated resilience and skill, setting up a crucial semi-final clash with Jordan. 

The match's narrative was one of dramatic shifts. Australia initially took the lead in the 42nd minute with a goal from Craig Goodwin. However, South Korea's unwavering spirit shone through late in the game. The equalizer came in the 96th minute, a crucial moment delivered by Hwang Hee-Chan. The momentum firmly shifted in South Korea's favor when Son Heung Min masterfully executed a free-kick in the 103rd minute.

South Korea's journey to the semi-finals has been marked by determination and grit. In Group E, they progressed with a record of one win and two draws, including a remarkable comeback against Saudi Arabia in the round of 16. Trailing by a goal against Saudi Arabia, Cho Gue-sung emerged as the hero, scoring in the 9th minute of injury time to level the score at 1-1. With the deadlock persisting through extra time, it was in the penalty shootout that South Korea showcased their composure, winning 4-2.

South Korea will match up against Jordan on Tuesday, February 6, at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. The winner of this upcoming semifinal match will secure a spot in the grand final of the tournament.
