Netizens step up to help woman suffering a rare disease that 'melts' her face

On the October 20 broadcast of 'Capture that Moment - How is that Possible', Shim Hyun Hee's difficult life living with neurofibromatosis went public.�

Since the age of 2, Shim suffered�glaucoma, which eventually led to complete blindness when she turned 13 years old. Then, at age 18, Shim's face started to stretch down or "melt" while tumors started to grow all over her face. Shim also does not have part of her skull, which left a giant hole in the�back of her head. Furthermore, Shim's physical size is the same as an elementary student because of her difficulty in consuming food.�

Shim's father revealed that Shim has undergone multiple surgeries; however, none of them managed to help her improve, since neurofibromatosis is known to be a rare disease�with no cure. Another reason for the lack of treatment is her family's financial standing. Meanwhile,�Shim states that her dream is to simply live a normal life just like any other women in her 30's.�

Currently, Shim's story is spreading across various online communities. Netizens, shocked and also touched by Shim's story, are stepping up to help Shim by contributing to the donation fund opened by the producers of 'Capture that Moment - How is that Possible'. As of now, more than 200 million KRW (approximately $180,000) have been gathered for Shim's surgery costs.�
