This is something that people in the service industry may relate to. A part-time convenience store clerk is gaining attention online for pleading with customers to receive better treatment.

In a recent online community post, a photo was uploading showing a handwritten message taped on top of a cash register. The message reads, "Please don't speak rudely. It is so hard to take. Please do not curse at me. I want to work with a smile on my face."

The story and the photo have gone viral, being shared by many netizens on other websites and gaining a lot of sympathy.

One netizen wrote, "I also was horribly mistreated while working as a convenience store; I heard sexist comments and my appearance was mocked." Many are cheering on the clerk and hoping that she can persevere.

For some odd reason, people seem to think that clerks are beneath everyone else. Without them, you don't get anything done. Put the bitch in the bottle and save it for the people who deserve it.

That's the only time these losers feel they have any power over someone.

I'm in high school and a work k at a pharmacy now but last year I was working at McDonalds and the different treatment is very evident. Once when I was serving, I was waiting for the customer to come up but she politely was telling this mother to go first but the kept going no you, no you. Eventually she decided to go and order first, assuming she was a nice person due to the way she communicated with the mother I had a nice smile on and greeted her extra politely but as soon as she turned to me her face was full of attitude and rudeness. Like her smile instantly turned into a "bitch burger and fast". She ordered her meal very rudely too and gave so much attitude.

It's so stupid how just because you work at a supermarket or convenience store some people feel they have the right to look down on you

I am a cashier at mcd and I have to deal with assholes too. But I continue to tell these same people, everyday - usually 2 times a day because they have no lives but lots of money to spend on this shit, "have a good day". So tiring.

It feels great when you say it mockingly though. Give them a huge s***-eating grin and say it in the most annoyingly upbeat voice... it pisses people off so much but you technically did nothing wrong so they just leave grumbling. It's such a good feeling~ you should try it ^^

"convenience store clerk begs customers to treat THEM better" or at least put a comma after customers, you need to check what you write before you post to see if it's easy to understand. I was so confused, because the note is asking customers to treat workers better not for customers to be treated better.

even if they had done as you suggested it wouldn't have been grammatically correct. i'm pretty sure it's fine the way it is, or if it isn't, the correction would be begs to be treated better by customers. "to treat them better" is wrong because the pronoun doesn't agree with the single subject, and putting a comma after customers is just wrong. not trying nit pick (though maybe i am lol), just correction :D do agree with you that akp sucks tho

Grammatically correct or not if you are writing an article then you should at least write something that is easy to understand. I wasn't trying to criticize their grammar I was trying to comment about how it was hard to understand.

imo it was fine, i understood it perfectly, but that's just my opinion :)

Working in a convenience store is not an easy job. I worked in one in LA and rude customers come in like flies and like to give you a hard time for no reason. I feel for this girl.

good idea , but you shouldn't expect people to just listen to this
