The first script reading for the highly anticipated 2026 drama 'Perfect Crown' has finally been revealed, heightening excitement for what is already being called one of the biggest series of the year.
Set to premiere in April 2026, MBC’s new Friday–Saturday drama 'Perfect Crown' is a status-defying romance set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy in Korea. The story follows a chaebol woman who has everything except noble status, and a king’s son who possesses royal blood but nothing else. Together, they embark on a journey of destiny, love, and breaking social barriers.
The casting alone has drawn major attention, bringing together some of the most beloved stars across generations: IU as Sung Hee Joo, Byeon Woo Seok as Prince Yi Ahn, Noh Sang Hyun as Min Jeong Woo, and Gong Seung Yeon as Yoon Yi Rang. With the drama already emerging as a standout project for the first half of 2026, the newly released script reading preview offered fans a glimpse of the actors’ first chemistry.
Director Park Joon Hwa and writer Yoo Ji Won were present alongside the full cast. The reading began with confident resolutions from the actors. IU and Byeon Woo Seok, who play contract marriage partners in the drama, showed particularly charming synergy. Noh Sang Hyun energized the room as Prime Minister Min Jeong Woo. He displayed a friendly senior-junior dynamic with IU’s character Sung Hee Joo, while portraying a dependable best friend alongside Byeon Woo Seok’s Prince Yi Ahn, hinting at a key role that moves between support and tension in the story.
Meanwhile, Gong Seung Yeon transformed into Yoon Yi Rang, a woman destined to become queen, adding a different layer of tension to the atmosphere. Even in emotionally charged scenes where her character clashes with Prince Yi Ahn, she maintained elegant speech, gestures, and expressive eyes, fully immersing herself in the role.

Byeon Woo Seok embodied Prince Yi Ahn, a royal who has nothing but his status, with a deep, steady voice and composed presence that conveyed regal dignity. He subtly varied his tone during emotional scenes where the usually unshaken prince begins to open up after meeting Sung Hee Joo, allowing viewers to feel the character’s transformation.
With its star-studded cast, compelling premise, and vibrant first script reading, 'Perfect Crown' is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about dramas of early 2026. The series will premiere this April on MBC.
