Lee Sun Gyun was allegedly a top 1% VIP member of a "room salon"

South Korean actor Lee Sun Gyun, age 48, famed for his roles in influential Korean dramas and movies, now stands accused of violating drug management laws. He has been linked to an exclusive '1% Room Salon' VIP club in Seoul's Gangnam-gu Yeoksam-dong district — a venue reserved for the very elites of society.

'Room Salons' are entertainment establishments found in South Korea, often linked with the country's nightlife and adult entertainment scene. Patrons are treated to a luxurious offering of private rooms — ranging in size and overall opulence — where activities such as singing karaoke, drinking, and mingling with hostesses are par for the course.

Lee Sun Gyun, the center of this current scandal, was allegedly found to have used marijuana at a reportedly high-end adult entertainment site in Seoul called 'G Establishment.' However, contrary to some media reports, it emerges that this location operates as a '1%' room salon, functioning on a members-only basis — making it virtually out of reach for the general populace. Its clientele is mainly comprised of celebrities, renowned athletes, and top-tier business magnates.

The term '1%' implies that only those belonging to the societal top 1% are afforded access. These exclusive establishments, including G Establishment, are known to charge from 8 to 10 million KRW (5,945 ~ 7,430 USD) for a table serving 3-4 persons, and their female employees garner T/C (Table Charge) of around 2 million KRW (1,486 USD). Amongst these employees, several are models, up-and-coming singers, and aspiring celebrities.

Lee Sun Gyun was allegedly introduced to G Establishment by a mutual acquaintance and gradually became a regular patron, developing close ties with Manager 'A' (29, female, currently detained). This bond led to his eventual apprehension for repeated marijuana usage at Manager 'A's home in Seoul.

Following anonymous tip-offs that Manager 'A' used drugs with VIPs at G Establishment, the Incheon Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit conducted raids, seizing incriminating evidence and arresting Gyun alongside other implicated parties.

On the legal front, Manager 'A' was arrested last month for violating drug laws, specifically pertaining to psychotropic substances. The police have re-labeled Lee Sun Gyun from witness to suspect, initiating a major investigation. His bodily fluids and hair samples are due for testing, as it is suspected his drug use extends beyond just marijuana.

Lee Sun Gyun has countercharged Manager 'A' for alleged extortion, claiming she extracted hundreds of millions of KRW (thousands of USD) from him. Both the drug and extortion cases are slated for a detailed investigation by the Incheon Police Agency.

Other figures drawn into this scandal include Hwang Ha Na and Han Seo Hee — all with previous drug-related incidents but seemingly no direct connection to Lee Sun Gyun. Though their specific charges have yet to be disclosed.

On a side note, a previous investigation on October 24 discovered that G Establishment was replaced by another venue named 'M Establishment' at its former Yeoksam-dong location. The whereabouts of the original G Establishment remains unknown.
