"My body isn't the same," Honey J opens up about how giving birth physically changed her

AKP STAFF

Honey J recently opened up about life after having given birth to her first child earlier this year.

On July 23 KST, Honey J and Hyojin Choi appeared as guests on episode six of their fellow 'Street Woman Fighter' castmate Gabee's YouTube series 'GABEE GIRL.' During the episode, the three discussed many topics and recalled moments from shooting 'Street Woman Fighter' together.

Toward the end of the episode, Gabee brought up the topic of Honey J's recent pregnancy, saying, "We are dancers, and people say your body changes after the whole process of giving birth. For me, if I ever gave birth, I think I would wonder, 'Will I be able to dance again on the same level?' Many people are also curious about this."

Honey J responded honestly, "In my opinion, I think we could all do it. We went through so much to be where we are now. And having a baby? It's nothing compared to everything we've been through. Of course, my body isn't the same. What surprised me the most after giving birth was that because I had to lose weight, I went to the gym [for physical training], and my trainer made me do sit-ups while lying down, and I couldn't even do one. I got so depressed then, seeing that my body couldn't do such a basic thing. It made me realize that my body had weakened a lot more than I thought. There was nothing I could do, so I cried a little and went home and looked at my baby then instantly felt better."

Gabee reacted with surprise, saying, "You can feel better that way?," to which Honey J responded, "Of course. 'For you [the baby]? This is nothing. Mommy can do it!' It's rather more motivating. [...] Because of the baby, I work harder! I recovered enough to dance. But it's not just me. You can all do this! We love dancing too much, and we've lived as cool dancers. Can you give up on that life? Never. Nothing is impossible. You just have to do it. I just had to work harder. If my daughter grows up and says, 'My mother is Honey J,' and someone says, 'Your mom gave up dancing because of you'... if I had to hear that as a child, I would be so sad."

She then brought up her husband, Jeong Dam, saying, "I also told my husband, 'Let's not give up on our lives.' Because sacrificing too much of our lives would just add to the pressure of when our baby grows up. I grew up the same way."

Meanwhile, Honey J and Jeong Dam were married in November of last year, and their daughter, nicknamed Love, was born in May.

Of course your body changes after giving birth, it's a massive ordeal, but the good news is that you can get back to where you were beforehand, with a bit of work. It's not surprising that stomach muscles are shot and sit-ups are difficult, but they will recover, you have to give yourself time, it doesn't happen in five minutes.

You are growing another human inside of you and giving birth to it, obviously it's going to change your body. As for not being able to do sit-ups, that could have to do with diastasis recti, which all pregnant women will experience to some degree, some more than others (but you can also have it even if you've never been pregnant or given birth)
