One-Hit Wonders from '90s K-pop

When you think of the nineties in k-pop, you will often think of the first-generation idol groups, such as H.O.T or S.E.S, the pioneers of idol groups in South Korea.

However, just as there are one-hit wonders today, there were also some great one-hit wonders that we thought would make it big two decades ago. For many reasons, they just couldn't get the spotlight in the following albums, or there was trouble amongst the company that prevented them from promoting later on.

Today, we'll look at some one-hit wonders from the nineties and examine their songs. Maybe you'll recognize a few songs as well, as people can sometimes easily recognize the song but not the artist. So let's get our throwback trains on and dive deep into some great k-pop groups that had a bright moment and quite possibly a bright future but stopped short!

Zaza - In The Bus

This song is a BOP and is still used in memes and a great song to listen to when you need a refreshing track. This co-ed group hit it big with this track, but this was the last of their success as member changes happened after the first album, and they failed to see the success from the second album, hence the sophomore jinx, leading to an organic disbandment.

Rumors - Storm

This song played across all the nightclubs during the nineties as it was an absolute bop. This was pretty much their only single, but it was impactful. It was a popular track to sing in karaoke and the #1 song to dance to in any night culture establishment in the country at the time.

Us - Just The Way It Is

Former Cool Member Late Yoo Chae Young and Shin Jung Hwan made this duet group which actually turned out to be a success, for at least the first album. The group itself was purposed to be a project group, so the group had to disband after the huge hit.

Yoo Chaeyoung - Emotion

Speaking of Yoo Chae Young, the late singer tried all sorts of things as she branched out into a solo career and released "Emotion," which was a massive hit in Korea! She was a techno queen, and though she isn't with us anymore, we will never forget her!

Today, we looked at some of the remarkable one-hit wonders from the nineties. Though these songs were released over two decades ago, they are still remembered as great bops to jam out to even today. You may have heard it once or twice on your favorite reality show or variety show. That's how much these songs have impacted modern Korean music! So let us know -- do any of these songs sound familiar to you? Which one was your favorite? Is there another one-hit wonder from the 1990s that we missed out on? Let us know in the comments below!
