Wheesung under fire for making a violent comment about junior singers and apologizing in a mocking tone

WHEESUNG

Singer Wheesung is under fire for his Instagram posts.

On February 1, Wheesung shared a post showing several junior singers preparing for his upcoming concert. In the caption, he wrote, "They'll singer better than this when I beat them with a bat."

A netizen criticized Wheesung's violent comment, and said, "How can you say hitting with a bat and what not even if it's a joke? You probably can't say this if you've been watching the news lately." Wheesung fired back, "I am watching the news."

Wheesung's reply led to more criticism. In response to the hate, Wheesung made another post, stating, "I have deleted the post~ (No more) Satire or jokes, I'll be uploading just photos and performance videos from now on. I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable often ^^"

His apology led to even more anger. Netizens claim Wheesung's apology was mockery and insincere, they continued to heavily criticize the singer for his rudeness.

Ultimately, Wheesung decided to make his Instagram account private.

you cant use violence in a comedic way.

there is trainees out there getting molested and beaten its not wise to joke that way

but also it doesnt have to blow up to this point and to make his acc private it was a bad joke he apologized move on and stop throwing hate, i feel like knetizens get thrilled to latch on others honestly

You can but only under certain circumstances like if you’re incredibly close. The “joke” if it was one it’s hard to tell, was made in poor taste with what’s going on currently and considering the work relationship.

Lol wtf... even if people thought the joke was in bad taste considering recent events, it was clearly a joke, and a pretty mild one

i think so too. and a lot of the same people who cause a ruckus about words like this do nothing to stop actions like this. it's a shame that so much attention is being given to a bad joke rather than to actual, legitimate issues which are causing harm

It's quite funny to read the comments calling him a jerk and all sorts of other names because he's actually so sweet and very very loved by the public. Some of you are just far to young to understand who Wheesung actually is.

Just because he’s loved doesn’t mean he wouldn’t do something dangerous. Not saying he would but some people come off as charming on the outside but really get to them and they can be abusive.

Wheesung has been around (originally) since the late 90's, no one has ever had anything bad to say about him.

Also, the people in the video have been with him for years and could have easily been a joke between them but as always the kpop fans are far too sensitive.

Unfortunately with all the current abuses cases coming out about idols including the one where that boy got choked you just can't make jokes like that. He can be the nicest guy and still say something horribly offensive which this was. If he had apologized right away and deleted it then it probably wouldn't have blown up as badly. Instead he made a smart*ss comment making it clear he didn't see the problem. He only apologized because people weren't letting up in the comments. Hopefully he'll realize that he really needs to be more careful.

SK has a huge problem with seniors bullying and abusing juniors, this sort of joke is harmful unless you actually intend to spread awareness and a message of change.

tbh i don't even find this that bad. i thought it would be him in a video actually saying that and saying it heatedly, really meaning it. like maybe being filmed when he didn't know.

but it's just this... just a comment like that... i don't have time to get upset about people's misplaced humour if there is no ill intent behind it. who has time for that? instead care about the people who are really being hurt by the actions like this, rather than people joking about it no matter how dumb the joke

From what I've seen of Wheesung, his sense of humor always seemed to be on the sarcastic/dark/caustic side.

This is just a joke/tease between co-workers. Can't believe people are giving him a hard time over this. Wheesung has been around forever and is like, one of the least problematic people in the industry. K-netz are being their ridiculously OTT selves, as usual.

honestly you can never tell when someone's apologizing bc they meant it or not, so you can either accept his apology and move on or act like you're better than him while sending him hate and leaving violent comments too...

It's quite obvious that he didn't mean what he posted. There was no need to apologize for something like this.

Sometimes i wonder why those celebs dont just ignore those stupid comments, they're just the loud minority after all.

Just fuck them and fuck everyone else who gets easily offended by something stupid, they'll eventually get bored of posting hate comments

this is yet another situation where we that this world has become so pc and people just want to get offended by every little thing. of course you want to take situations where things actually happen seriously but really, yall be taking this to another level.

Depends on how close he is with them in my opinion. Jokes are always harder to detect online.
