On July 28, about two months after the release of "Mistake", Irish indie rock band Two Door Cinema Club posted to Twitter referring to the song. Two Door Cinema Club wrote, "Nice to see we've inspired someone," adding a link to Drug Restaurant's track.

Netizens are now comparing "Mistake" to the Irish band's songs "Someday" and "What You Know" as there are similar guitar riffs in the tracks. Drug Restaurant have denied that they've plagiarized Two Door Cinema Club, however, stating, "The overall planning and vision of the song was by member Jo Dae Min, who really respects Two Door Cinema Club. The song is influenced by them, but it's not plagiarism."

that is a quite generic riff in the first place

idolzfreak Thursday, July 28, 2016

Not just these but some other songs like OMG got some rifts that sounded like Good Charlotte's Like It's Her Birthday (jap edition ft. Miyavi). And JJY's Teenager beginning was exactly the same as M-flo and Dragon Ash's Way U Move. Not sure if M-flo's one was the original or they sampled from other song. But uh, to what extend is the similarity considered plagiarism, that's the question.

idolzfreak Thursday, July 28, 2016

I'm a JJY fan but was just wondering is it just me or others find these similar too, that's all.

When I herd the song I automatically thought about jpop. If they are plagiarizing then heck lets go after the jrock industry. Megamasso is the first group some of the rifts remind me of. September love being top. Had this discussion on youtube and the list is crazy so chalk it up to style they went with.

I've noticed the similarities since the first time I've heard "Mistake". However, TDCC's - therefore, Drug Restaurant's too - riffs are pretty generic. It's not like DR copied them and not like TDCC invented the wheel. Also, Jung Joon Young's voice is far better than Alex Trimble's, TBH.

lol akp... netizens compared the two songs since day1

Keepinitkreal Thursday, July 28, 2016

I think no matter what they say, they get sued they are paying so koreans don't know what inspired and just plain copied are

Moniques Keepinitkreal Thursday, July 28, 2016

TDCC didn't sue them tho'. Where did you get that? Lol. They just tweeted that they're happy they inspired someone considering they're not big or popular band.

Keepinitkreal Moniques Thursday, July 28, 2016

I never said they got sued...

Moniques Keepinitkreal Thursday, July 28, 2016

So what you meant if they get sued they're paying? The second part of your statement I agreed because Koreans seems like didn't know the concept inspired when their artists have been "inspired" by western artists for so long.

Keepinitkreal Moniques Thursday, July 28, 2016

Yeah that's what I meant I wrote it as I'd say it but the tone didn't come across haha

Leafinator Thursday, July 28, 2016

Was a fan of Two Door Cinema Club long before I got into K-Pop and there are clear similarities but the song is still good and its not as though they simply stole the song and hoped no one would notice. Overall the song is different enough that it simply sounds inspired and okay the riffs are same-y but not worth get angry about.

alicehalf Thursday, July 28, 2016

See it !! Everyone thumbs down my comment when they released their MV and I said that it's sounds Two Door Cinema Club song, now it's themselves who says that ! Clear your ears my friends.

Moniques alicehalf Thursday, July 28, 2016

Where did they say DR copy them? They said they're glad they inspired someone. Read it again. The band also didn't deny they're influenced by TDCC.

alicehalf Moniques Thursday, July 28, 2016

Have you seen his tweet? His smiley says it all...

Smiley like that doesn't always mean cringe. People use it lightly all the time too. If they really don't like it, I haven't heard any news about lawsuit. Then again, they can only sue them if they're sure DR copy their melody/chords progression or copyright infringement more than 70% from their original song. If not, under law it's seen as inspired not plagiarism. It's not like TDCC music is original anyway lol.

SlingmeJasminite Thursday, July 28, 2016

I thought two door cinema club were genuinely glad they had inspired someone and they wanted to help out jjy not that they were accusing them of plagiarism
