B.I.G APHRODITE

Track List:

1. Big Transformer
2. Aphrodite
3. Burn It Out
4. Right Now
5. Are You Listening
6. Take You There
7. Aphrodite (Inst.)

B.I.G, not to be confused with the notorious rapper by the same name, was formed in 2014 under GH Entertainment. The name, for the uninitiated, stands for "Boys In Groove." The boys have dropped their newest EP, 'Aphrodite.' This is their first mini-album.

'Aphrodite' is crammed with full-bodied anthems and a couple silky ballads. "Aphrodite" is the title track, a bombastic tune full of throaty raps, forceful croons and magnificent vocals. The last two non-instrumental songs are where it slows way down -- the placement is interesting, but I can see how it might be jarring to go from high-tempo to low and then back to high again.

There are two old tracks on here -- "Burn It Out" and "Big Transformer," the latter serving as an intro track. I think one of my faves has to be one of the new ones -- "Right Now"; it's got that guitar-oriented sound that I ? so much, and some great echo effects.

This is a pretty solid EP, full of auditory appeal from ballad to banger. I like how fierce some of the faster songs sound, and the ballads are pretty steady-as-she-goes as well... The vocals are fairly controlled on "Are You Listening" and "Take You There," and they manage to sound emotional without simpering. It's a pretty powerful-sounding album overall.

MV REVIEW

The MV is fairly static, not a lot of location changes here, and when there are it's in a box, with lights shining on them, like countless other boy band MVs. They do some things to shake things up, like projected images and the like. Still, the shtick is painfully obvious.

But the song is dynamic and upbeat, and just the right formula to get me bobbing and singing along. The dancing is fantastic, and the choreo is what makes this fun to watch. There's some nice stylistic elements, too, like the savage looking drummers in the beginning. One thing can be said about B.I.G is that they can move.

So, yeah, I can totally recommend this.
