Allegedly wealthy customers suspected of forcing parking attendants to kneel in front of them for two hours

On January 7, the Bucheon Jungbu Police Station announced that an allegedly wealthy mother in her 50's, Ms. Hwang, will be investigated of assaulting three parking attendants. She has been accused of forcing them to kneel to her and her daughter for two hours.

Police first began investigating the issue when a netizen wrote about the story online. The netizen claimed to be the sister of one of the parking attendants and said that the incident occurred back on December 27 at the Hyundai Department Store located in the city of Bucheon.

According to the netizen, the three parking attendants instructed the Hwang mother and daughter pair to drive to the fourth basement floor. The Hwangs were offended that they were treated like other customers. The netizen believed that they were either VIP customers or cousins of the department store owners. Ms. Hwang and her daughter proceeded to slap the parking attendants in the face and forced them to kneel for two hours.

The story went viral and police launched their investigation. A witness confirmed the story, saying that Ms. Hwang and her daughter were claiming to be cousins of the department store owner and shouting, "How can you treat me the same as other customers when I spend more than 7 million won (approx. $6,300 USD) each time I come here?"

Hyundai Department Store has denied the relation and has asserted that Ms. Hwang and her daughter are not on their VIP customer list. Meanwhile, Ms. Hwang and her daughter claimed that the parking attendants voluntarily knelt before them after striking their car. The CCTV footage police secured reportedly shows one of the parking attendants swinging his fist at the back of the Hwangs' car, confirming one part of the Hwangs' story.

One of the parking attendants, however, asserted that they did not voluntarily kneel but were forced to. He told the police, "The woman in her 50's forced us to kneel; when we tried to stand up, she pushed us down again."

The Bucheon Jungbu Police Station will continue investigating Ms. Hwang and will be treating her as a suspect of assault. Ms. Hwang told reporters, "Do I seem like a thug? Once the police investigate me, the truth will be revealed. We have so much to say [to the public] that we weren't able to sleep for days�."

Ms. Hwang and her daughter also made the additional complaint that on a different date, the Hyundai Department Store had ordered them to leave due to their excessive protests and drove them away as far as the city of Busan. This, however, is unrelated to the parking attendant abuse issue.
