G-Dragon's A Boy performance last night was shocking in more ways than one - aside from his blindingly awful new hair, G-Dragon waved a cryptic sign that has been the talk of the town in the past twelve hours: "Next week, Taeyang comeback!" Wait, so Taeyang is performing Where U At after all? With no official statement from YG Entertainment to follow up last night's show, fans have been confused over what G-Dragon's message really meant. Though unconfirmed, the latest rumor is that Taeyang is still releasing Wedding Dress in November, but will be making his comeback next Sunday on Inkigayo with Where U At. It wouldn't make sense for Taeyang to perform Wedding Dress so soon when the song hasn't even been released; the music video hasn't even been filmed yet. It is widely believed that Aimee Lee Lucas, the girl who made a cameo at the end of the Where U At MV (also featured in Number 1; girlfriend of choreographer Shaun Evaristo), is flying in at the end of the month to film Wedding Dress. Furthermore, Where U At already has performable choreography as indicated by the music video. If we assume that this is indeed a comeback, it's still unclear why YG Entertainment didn't outright announce that Taeyang's promotions would begin next week. On the surface, it's easy to assume that YG Entertainment lied to us by dropping the ball on Taeyang promotions and impulsively deciding to promote Where U At after all, but, with YG Entertainment's killer marketing strategies (think of 2NE1's pre-debut fame and G-Dragon's pre-comeback hype), this may seem difficult to believe. Maybe YG Ent really wasn't expecting such widespread popularity for Where U At, or maybe this was their plan to catch us off-guard us all along. Who knows, maybe G-Dragon was feeling extra rebellious and wrote that sign himself for the heck of it. And honestly, I'm more delighted than annoyed with this pleasant surprise. It seems like many fans are annoyed with YG Entertainment for the confusion, but I think it was a clever marketing strategy. Though unconventional, YG Entertainment's method of revealing Taeyang's comeback through G-Dragon's performance was a great way to use G-Dragon's popularity to pave the way for his fellow Big Bang member's promotions. Ever since Taeyang's Where U At dropped earlier this week, fans have been dying over the fact that Taeyang wouldn't be performing this song, and luckily enough, their prayers have been answered. So try not to overanalyze the situation, kick back and anticipate Taeyang's return! Thanks muffinlove11 for the tip!
