AKP STAFF

What is K-Pop? What is mainstream? And are these two terms mutually exclusive, always?

These questions and more will be tackled by the key figures behind the K-Pop scene in TVING's brand new documentary, 'K-Pop Generation'.

In a teaser for the documentary revealed on January 11, K-Pop idols representing various generations including IVE's Yujin, Super Junior's Leeteuk, SHINee's Minho, NCT's Doyoung, TOMORROW x TOGETHER, LE SSERAFIM's Kim Chaewon, and more open up about the meaning, the status, and the future of K-Pop as a global entertainment genre. These idol stars are also joined by industry experts like SM Entertainment CEO Lee Sung Soo, RBW CEO Kim Do Hoon, lyricist Seo Ji Eum, MV director Sung Won Mo, 'DongA Ilbo' reporter Lim Hee Yoon, and more, all concerned with not only defining K-Pop in the present day, but also telling real stories about K-Pop and how it arrived at its global status today.

In fact, the complete documentary will feature interviews and behind-the-scenes episodes featuring even more K-Pop stars than mentioned above, including Sunmi, 2PM, Highlight, EXO's Suho, MAMAMOO's Hwa Sa, Stray Kids, ENHYPEN, IVE, etc.

A must-see documentary for anyone with an interest in global popular culture, TVING's 'K-Pop Generation' will premiere on January 26.

Why wouldn't it be mainstream? Pop music is the most mainstream music there is and generally has more listeners than any other genre, that's why it's called "popular music". And yes, I know that not all Koreans are into Kpop. It's still a big part of their entertainment industry and their culture.
