At Kai Tak Stadium on Nov. 29, Chapter 2 of ‘2025 MAMA Awards’ paused for a tribute to victims of Hong Kong’s recent fire. Presenter Chow Yun-fat, whose attendance had been uncertain until shortly before the show, asked the crowd to observe a moment of silence; house lights went dark and the audience rose together.
The request came as the death toll in the Nov. 26 Tai Po apartment blaze reached 128 and the government declared three days of official mourning, prompting cancellations or scaled-back cultural events. In response, producers scrapped the red carpet and kept stage direction restrained; presenters and artists offered condolences from the podium, many in black.
Chapter 2 was hosted by Kim Hye Soo. Day 2’s grand prizes went to G-Dragon (‘Artist of the Year’) and Stray Kids (‘Album of the Year’). A segment tied to Netflix’s ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ proceeded with the in-film girl group Huntrix, while a planned cameo by the fictional boy group The Saja Boys was dropped given its grim-reaper motif.
