'I Live Alone' denies product placement associated with controversial JMS cult

AKP STAFF

MBC's 'I Live Alone' has denied any product placement associated with the controversial JMS cult.

The November 3rd episode of 'I Live Alone' featured a hotel in the city of Jeonju, and one YouTuber is alleging the hotel was featured on the show as product placement for a company associated with the JMS cult, which is also known as the Providence religious movement. The organization is founded by convicted rapist Jung Myung Seok, who was accused of grooming and sexually exploiting young female members of the cult.

According to the YouTuber, the hotel is "very closely related" to JMS as multiple festivals and sports events for the cult were held there. The YouTuber further alleged the production team of 'I Live Alone' has ties to the cult and the hotel was shown for free advertisement. The Methodist Cult Damage Prevention Center also stated the hotel in question is very closely connected to JMS.

On November 17, the producers behind 'I Live Alone' denied the allegations of any advertisement of the hotel, stating, "The allegations are groundless. We'll work hard to pay closer attention to the opinions sent in by viewers. Thank you."

The hotel by itself is a going concern- meaning legally, it can operate as a business. For a Youtuber to accuse I Live Alone for associating with that hotel and being given airtime is ridiculous indeed. If the goverment do not wish the hotel to operate, then they should shut it down.
