Its more satisfying to see views for every group go up drastically from 2017 to 2018

it's the trend worldwide for everything on youtube actually. Views are higher than ever , not just for music (but especially music). The younger generations spend more time on youtube than older generations did...as older generations prolly did more things with their life outside of the computer.

Interesting to see how Twice receives more views than BTS in South Korea while Red Velvet also receives more from South Korea than Blackpink

Actually, it's not new that Blackpink only has Indonesia and Thailand.

general public in korean and japan like girls group more. it's not surprising. they also prefer a cute girl concept over cool and sexy

I can tell one thing for sure is Twice and JYP knows what they are doing and there style is something relaxing and chill like living in Asian country is hard because of everyone is involved in everything in your life in west when you turn 18 you are free but here its different story so when everyone is tired of study school and like extra classes they relax by watching cute and happy stuff to remove that tension that is the reason Twice is so popular because they make you happy and bring smile to your face so proud of them :)

Aah happy to see India here. We are contributing in a small way. Its very difficult since the general public listen mostly to Bollywood and regional songs. Am glad KPOP is doing very well.

However, more than the views I wish fans bought the physical albums which would actually help the artists monetary wise. YT views and all are fine yet owning an album is still better

Twice is truly the nation's girl group now whoa. I didnt expect them to get the most views in south korea. I thought bts would have the most lol

south korea watches videos on naver and other websites a lot though so in that country's case you can't judge just by youtube views if that is your thing.

Kpop is on the rise again!! But also for any doubters of who the Nation's girl group is...Look at Twice's views in South Korea. By far the highest girl group. Also look at Japan!!! Like they are a WALL in Japan. lol Also it's funny that someone finally surpassed Got7 in Thailand. They are still untouchable there when it comes to boy groups, but Black Pink beat them by a little even with their big increase. The power of Lisa. lol

Got7 are still untouchable when it comes to any group in Thailand, boy group or girl group, bp fans just streamed harder.

This verifies how certain agencies ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰ make mediaPlay with YouTube views, it is the only thing they have ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

Yeah and seeing how some fans get triggered by this mediaplay shows that YT views seems to be the only thing they got as well.

bts aint that popular in korea? and the population of us is bigger than sk by many times. people in south korea respect bts for being popular, but they dont stream

I think you're right. Unless people were already apart of their core fan base from the start, many South Koreans only cared about them after their massive worldwide breakthrough. Sad but true. Their international fanbase was there from the start as well but steadily grew, not just after they blew up.

Seeing the U.S. and Vietnam as the 1st and 2nd in 2018 for BTS makes me so proud as a Viet-American ARMY. What's even better is how the views in general for all the groups have rocketed - forget fan wars, let's just appreciate great music from ALL these artists

why the fuck do you guys care so much about youtube views? It is completely uninteresting and doesnt matter at all. Unless you're an unsure teenage girl belonging to a fandom and you want to have silly wars with other fandoms

does China hate kpop now? even Taiwan and Hongkong are on the list

Share

No, lot of Chinese still like kpop although govnt discourage korean entertainment. HK / Macau are always the alternative spot for Chinese to go to kpop concerts.

But youtube is banned in China, they have their own local channel to watch kpop.

They pretty much have local apps/ video/ music channel/translated video streaming sites for anything related to K entertainment.

So you wouldnt see much Chinese streaming data in youtube/ spotify, etc

SM (I believe) actually has biggest market in China, especially exo. Their total Chinese album sales is close to korean one.

Even Taiwan/ Hong Kong(I am originally from HK) you can use multiple video streaming channels. Spotify/ Apple music is not as popular in those area. They have multiple local sites/ channel for sharing these stuffs.

Youtube is not dominated channel to watch kpop in Asia, it is more predominated to use for SEA area but not Chinese/Taiwan/Hong Kong/ Japanese/ Korean market. That's why for groups like Twice/ Exo/ TVXQ that already has big influence/ sales in Asian market but you would see much of their data. Its doesn't mean they are less popular, just not favorable in terms of streaming data especially on western streaming channel.

I wouldn't say "hate". It's just that China is very strict when it comes to media. For instance: Weeks ago, they put a hold on computer games being released and recently, 20 games have been banned by China's new gaming regulator - including PUBG (Blood) and Fortnite (Blood, Vulgar Content).

Although kpop is for sure getting bigger globally but I think one major trigger is some music shows like nkigayo now using YouTube to be their major calculation. Pretty much all firms(especially big 3) keep promoting their YouTube extensively during their comeback now, not hard to see why there is so much increase in YouTube views from 17 to 18. I never really see any kpop youtube trend in my country before, but this year even Sm new Chinese boy group(which is supposed to be unknown) is trending. And kpop mv ad is everywhere. It almost make me think even sk government is encouraging in using YouTube to let kpop take over the world.

Momoland's mvs aren't interesting at all, but their songs are very catchy that's why they have a lot of listeners on spotify. They're relatively new yet they're almost at 2m, this is huge!

I love BP but calling them Global Queens is a bit of a stretch considering they barely have any catalog of music. Maybe once they get some more music under their belt? Right now Potential Global Queens is more fitting.
