GOT7's Jackson talked about the sacrifices he made for his K-Pop dreams on Chinese variety show 'Go Fridge'.

Jackson explained how he had to let down the high hopes of his father as well as his peers for his great passion for K-Pop. The idol star, who was once Hong Kong's national fencing representative, even turned down a scholarship for Stanford University, and even the chance to join Hong Kong's national team for the London Olympics.

Ultimately, Jackson gave up all those things and decided to start from the bottom as a trainee, rather than becoming a fencing star. Fortunately for him, Jackson's passion and hard effort has paid off, and he's touching many hearts with his success story.

Listen to how Jackson came to be a top idol star in the clip above.

I understand Jackson. He likes fencing and singing but the thing is, he wants singing more than fencing. Choosing a career in Korean Music industry doesn't equate to failure and choosing Stanford and Olympics don't equate to success. It was actually a brave move. A leap of faith. If you really want something and if you're really passionate about it, don't be afraid to take risks. Do it. I respect this guy a lot. Jackson Wang, jjang!

Turning down scholarships to try and Olympic deals to try become a Kpopstar in a saturated market???. Now I type it, it sounds even more ridiculous.

megamanx MbaG007 Saturday, May 28, 2016

Not really. If he went to the Olympics and didn't get a medal (he would be a nobody). If he went to Stanford and graduated, he would've gotten a regular job working a 9-5 making $50,000 a year. His decision to join kpop makes him famous and able to make much more money than he would ever had in the other 2 options.

As compared to the other how many hundreds of group who are still struggling to make a break... I'd still choose Stanford

Each has his own dream to realize and he realized his..

I agree with u tbh because out of all the kpop groups only 10% managed to make an income that's set for life other groups are still struggling with no incomes at all.

i'm jealous with people who have determination in something and know what he want...because i still can't decide whether to get out of my bed or continue sleeping all day....

eunicerm jypnloves Friday, May 27, 2016

like how I can't choose what to watch first among Law of the Jungle, Running Man, We Got Married, Beast's Beauty, and 1N2D since subtitles of the recent episodes were uploaded almost at the same day and time.

eager_beaver jypnloves Friday, May 27, 2016

The obvious answer is always "sleep all day". If I didn't do that, I might one day accidentally become successful and famous like Jackson here. And who on earth wants that? So, yeah, sleep it is.

jypnloves eager_beaver Saturday, May 28, 2016

yeah!!and i always hope that i will be successful in my dream...

I used to be a fencer myself, and when I first got into got7, I only knew Jackson because he used to be a fencer. I only did it for a few years, went to a few tournaments, and my parents encouraged me to try to get scholarships from colleges, but I quit 2 years ago. Because I want to go an art school, I substituted fencing for more art stuff. Hearing Jackson talk about his decisions and why he did what he did means a lot to me personally. Many would say he missed an opportunity, but I think he would have missed an even bigger opportunity if he did not follow his heart. I admire him for being so courageous and I am proud of him.

eunicerm kyubachu Friday, May 27, 2016

and I admire people like you and GOT7 for knowing what you guys really wanted and for having dreams. I'm a college student taking a program that I never thought of taking because I don't have a certain dream. (my dream as a kid was to become an actress, currently dreaming about being an idol-actress in korea but I think that's just plain nonsense. I mean, me dreaming that)

FUCK EVERYTHING AND DO IT! Trust me, if your heart is set on something, you will automatically fight against all odds to get there no matter what the downfalls and mishaps. Fine, if you succeed and do something you never really wanted to in the first place, you'll never truly be happt or taste the actual success of doing something you've dreamt of doing. It's never too late, ya know?

daFoolio Thursday, May 26, 2016

i admire that~~

masayume_chasing Thursday, May 26, 2016

Now I love him even more.

mypcy Thursday, May 26, 2016

You do you Jackson, I will support whatever makes you happy.

Bluesky07 Thursday, May 26, 2016

Why do people think he wasted an opportunity! It's his life and he is living it to the fullest! Jackson is the kind of person who can succeed in anything he wants, cause he does things he loves! That's what matters in life  ultimately! I am disappointed in people talking how he wasted and's not your life it's his life and he knows what's best for him! For me he is an inspiration!

fencing "star".... fencers who do well become masters.. not stars.. anyway... would've been awesome if he went to the olympics, and then started his traineeship.. but i guess he decided to do it after the youth championships (iirc), and not after the olympics. A bit of a shame really...

eunicerm intricate Friday, May 27, 2016

he will not be with Mark if then. he chose to train as an idol, that means it's his hate. Mark is his destiny.

intricate eunicerm Friday, May 27, 2016

what? hate? my point is.. he could've chosen to go a little later. The chances of him being in the current group would be slimmer of course, but he might as well have been where he is now regardless.
