Will BTS be guaranteed time to promote even if they enlist in mandatory military service?

AKP STAFF

News related to the military service of BTS has been reported.

On October 4, SBS reported, "The President's Office recently received a report on how to improve the special military service system, and it has been confirmed that it contains information that guarantees BTS' activities no matter what."

This report titled 'Measures to Improve the Arts and Sports Personnel System' was prepared by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and reported to the President's Office for Social Affairs last week. It is pointed out that the ministry followed the instructions of the presidential office to review a plan to reorganize the system in line with the 'fairness' issue. One proposal is to abolish the current Arts and Sports military service system, with two proposals on maintaining the system but strengthening fairness. BTS-related content was included in both plans.

The first proposal is to create an 'Arts and sports unit' so that individuals can maintain their necessary skills after enlisting even if the system is abolished or to expand on military arts and music services such as military band activities and create new events. In the case that all 7 BTS members enlist, there is a separate proposal to allow the members temporary overseas travel and permit them to stay outside of their unit for about 120 days per year.

Additionally, the proposal suggests that the members be allowed to hold online and offline promotion activities, including concerts in Korea and overseas, award ceremony attendance, and broadcast appearances. But the report also suggests that the group be limited to participating in activities that will benefit the general public, such as the Busan Expo event.

Meanwhile, Jin is the oldest member of BTS at 29 years of age, and according to the Military Service Act, he has to enlist in the military early next year. However, if the National Assembly passes the pending Military Service Act, BTS will not be obligated to serve.

They want to milk them even when fullfilling their duties to the country? Wow... the lack of shame. I really feel sorry for these boys because this is becoming ridiculous at so many levels... and the longer it takes the more it becomes meaningless.

So they basically want BTS to enlist and still promote/tour while serving in the military, essentially working 2 beyond fulltime jobs at the same time? Not only will they have to fulfill the required obligations of a soldier as part of the military but also manage the insane schedule of a kpop group. Isn't it tiring enough being a kpop idol without having the additional responsibilities of being an active duty soldier?

What they're really saying is "They have to fulfill their duty as Korean men but we don't want to lose our cash cow and give up all the money BTS brings in to the economy so we're going to make them work twice as hard."
