Scriptwriter Kim Eun Sook, who wrote many hits such as 'Descendants of the Sun', 'Secret Garden', 'Lovers in Paris', 'On Air', and more, revealed that she has constantly been rejected by actor Gong Yoo.

At the press conference for new tvN drama 'Goblin', Kim Eun Sook said, "I've been rejected by Gong Yoo for 5 years." She continued, "He politely rejected. I was cautious about making the offer for this drama, and I thought that I'll have to wait long but he gave me a fast response. He told me that he'll do the role if I'm okay with a goblin who's timid and fearful."

Gong Yoo spoke up and explained, "I became afraid of dramas. It was a personal problem. This time, I met her because I wanted to give words of appreciation for continuously giving me affection. When we met, we talked, and I heard about the drama. I was able to open my heart after 2-3 hours of meeting."

'Goblin', written by Kim Eun Sook and starring Gong Yoo, Kim Go EunYoo In Na, Lee Dong Wook, and more is set to air starting December 2.

you are really persistent writer-nim. after 5 years being rejected, you have finally managed to open up his heart!

OshiriSisters Tuesday, November 22, 2016

When your last drama is Big I don't blame you for being afraid of dramas lmao

pinkpanther07 Tuesday, November 22, 2016

Yeah he should be because his last kdrama comeback from Military "Big" was a major flop. Fans were left disappointed bec. of the ending including me. I know he cannot do anything about it bec. it was the writer's fault. I hope this drama can restore Gong Yoo's presence in the Kdrama world! <3 Fighting oppa!

Why "BiG" really a flop? Or is that your opinion because you didn't like the ending for some reason? I really liked "BiG" and I thought the ending was good (the couple met at the end when he grew up).

Unfortunately pinkpanther07 is not incorrect Big was a domestic critical flop. Ratings wise Big started doing well but at around the half way point the ratings began to drop drastically and the domestic audience was he

We don't see Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye anymore now...  I miss them ! I'm glad he accepted the offer !

I will definitely pay attention to this drama because of gong yoo and kim go eun. I guess kim eun sook tried something different compared to her previous drama which full of cheesy romance

Why is he afraid of dramas? Did he have a drama that becomes flop? Or he cant handle drama. And for the director, she might be a fan or see something in this actor, but the actor might not be confident or doesnt have a confidence to the director, which one.

Big. Not so many people liked it and it was sort of his comeback drama after completing his mandatory military service.

ayurikuu kpophilippines Tuesday, November 22, 2016

I guess he is afraid of drama which full of cheesy lines such as DOTS and secret garden compared to his personality. CMIIW

I think he doesn't have confidence in himself, not that he doesn't have confidence in the director. I mean, he commented on his own performance - saying that he can act in the drama, but only if he portrays the character a certain way. Him rejecting her 5 times... if it was that he didn't have confidence in her, he would've rejected again. I think dramas are different from movies because there's more chance for them to go wrong, and as was mentioned one of his most recent dramas did flop. There's the fact that, if the drama isn't pre-produced, the story can change at any time. And also the fact that an actor needs to be able to cope well and adapt to these changes, without breaking character. I think there are a lot of reasons to be scared of dramas ahahaha

In this article the director is a good director directing DOTS, but still this actor is hesitant.

thieves kpophilippines Wednesday, November 23, 2016

That's what I said. It's not that the actor doubts the director, I don't think; he would've continued rejecting her if that was the case. He's doubting himself.

kpophilippines thieves Thursday, November 24, 2016

But not the actor is now to be in a drama with this director. I dont know what is he thingking, but I think he is weak in taking the plunge.

before watching this drama you guys need to see him on Running Man (ep 175), he doesn't do Variety Show Running Man got him to do it I don't know how but that episode was so funny and he is such a sweetheart, shy and lovable man. If you love him, you will fall in love again and if you don't you will fall in love after watching the first 5 minutes of the episode.
