More cosmetic procedures non-Koreans might find weird

1. Lower eyelid surgery

This surgery, which Suzy and IU allegedly got, makes the eyes rounder and more doe-like by cutting the tissues on the bottom of the eyes. It makes your eyes also bigger and less slanted. Many netizens accuse different celebrities of getting this done, but since it leaves no scars, we will never know.

2. Beauty mark tattoos

Korean female celebrities - notably Han Ga In and Jun Ji Hyun - who have natural beauty marks on their noses have inspired some women to tattoo the same marks on their noses! Apparently it makes your nose look pointier by drawing the attention to the tip of the nose.

3. Belly button surgery

Lee Hyori is rumored to have received this surgery when she first debuted as a solo artist because she needed to turn up the sexy image. The surgery changes the shape of the belly button from a normal, round shape to a more vertical shape! The new shape is supposed to make your abs appear more toned and flat.

4. White tanning

IU was rumored to have gotten this procedure to become much lighter than when she debuted. However, also called 'red light therapy,' it is a way to accelerate your skin's collagen regeneration, and it just makes your skin go back to its original shade! HyunA supposedly used this after filming "Bubble Pop" because she got sunburned on the film set!

5. Palm lines correction

Although this seems to have originated from or is more popular in Japan, this happens in Korea, too. They deepen and create palm lines to accentuate the fortune that comes with it like in palm reading. Some even try to lengthen their lifespan, give birth to a son, and change their career with the new palm lines.

6. Eyeball whitening

Now banned due to its high percentage of side effects, eyeball whitening surgery is used to literally make the whites of your eyes whiter and brighter by removing the 'dead' veins inside your eyes. Although it worked for some people, because many suffered from tumors and infections in their eyes after the surgery, it is now illegal to do this in Korea.

7. Aristocrat surgery

To get rid of those lines from the outside of the nostrils to the mouth, you can insert a thin layer of silicone underneath the skin around the problem area. The surgery is called the 'aristocrat' surgery because having deep lines around your mouth area supposedly makes you look poorer and the opposite is supposed to make you look wealthier.

8. Head shape surgery

Did you know that you can be ugly from the back? Some people who are not happy with the shape of their head can insert a silicon pad underneath the scalp to make flatness disappear for a rounder, fuller look. It can be done on the top of the head, too, if you want, and some people who apply for jobs with height requirements are known to do this to be taller.

9. Cat surgery

To achieve the perfect angle of the nose and the mouth, you can get a surgery called 'cat surgery' that apparently either pulls down the nose a little bit lower and/or adjusts the upper mouth by adding or removing tissues in the philtrum for that "perfect" 90 degrees from nose to mouth.

10. Calf muscle reduction surgery

Large muscles in the calves can be removed using shots or through a surgical operation, but either way, Korean women strive to achieve the perfectly shaped legs! Luna of f(x) is rumored to have received this procedure.

11. Gum line correction surgery

Showing too much gum line when smiling is considered unattractive in Korea, and you can achieve the perfect teeth to gum ratio with a procedure! Lee Yeon Hee supposedly got this surgery early in her career along with veneers on her teeth to perfect that smile.
