Producer Shin Won Ho opened up about the possibility of creating a follow-up in his 'Reply' series entitled 'Reply 2002' in a video posted onto tvN's official Facebook on December 9. With the widespread popularity of the two 'Reply' series he produced so far, he had previously expressed his desire to create another drama, but also the uncertainty about whether it will be a sequel.

In the video, he was asked, "Is 'Reply 2002' really coming out?" Shin Won Ho replied, "We went into a meeting about our next production since the beginning of this year, but our meetings were put on hold a few months ago due to an internal situation...We are also looking at things that could be completely separate from 'Reply.' I am currently concerned over what I should take on.
I cannot yet say whether it will be a part of the 'Reply' series. I believe we will go with the continuous flow. I think we will do a warm, sentimental drama that gives off the scent of people. I think we will make a sentimental drama that can be a source of comfort.
Next year, too, we will not forget our initial intent and will create original content."
