BABYMONSTER debuts as seven: Embraces new start and fan support

AKP STAFF

BABYMONSTER shared their feelings on their official debut.

Rora from BABYMONSTER stated during an interview held on the morning of the 1st at YG's new building in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the release of their first mini-album 'BABYMONS7ER'

"We previously performed with six-members, but this time, with the addition of Ahyeon, we are starting as seven. I'm thankful."

YG's new 7-member girl group, BABYMONSTER, consists of Ruca, Pharita, Asa, Rami, Rora, Chiquita, and Ahyeon.

Initially, Ahyeon had to withdraw due to health reasons, leading BABYMONSTER to debut as a six-member group last November.
With Ahyeon's return after a break, YG announced that the previous activities were considered 'pre-debut' and emphasized that this new release is the official 'debut album,' marking a fresh start.

Ahyeon shared, "It's difficult to explain in detail, but I was psychologically distressed. I focused on recovery during this period, consistently exercising at home and eating well. The members sent me a lot of encouragement and support, and the fans also sent supportive messages, which gave me a lot of strength. I wanted to recover quickly, but it was frustrating that things didn't go as my heart desired, and I felt sorry towards the members. I thought it would have been nice if we could have debuted as a complete group of seven from the start. Watching the members perform so well gave me strength. I was nervous when I first joined, but the members told me not to worry because I was doing well, which changed my nervousness into excitement."

She added, "I am fully recovered now. I'm happy that I can stand in front of everyone joyfully. I had a strong desire to return quickly, and I had no other concerns about joining."

 Rami
also expressed, "We previously performed as a six-member version, but it naturally felt right that we would officially debut when Ahyeon joined. So, it was natural to wait. We thought it was something we could do for her."

The debut album of BABYMONSTER, 'BABYMONS7ER', features the letter T in the group's name replaced with a 7 to symbolize the seven members. It includes a variety of tracks across genres, such as the powerful hip-hop title track 'SHEESH', the intro track 'MONSTERS' that reveals the group's identity, 'LIKE THAT' in collaboration with world-renowned singer-songwriter Charlie Puth, and the pre-debut track 'DREAM'.

Asa commented, "This time, the seven of us are coming out with our first mini-album. The previous six-member version felt somewhat lacking, but with Ahyeon's return, it feels complete. It's better. I hope the fans will listen to the seven-member version a lot."

The title track 'SHEESH' is characterized by bold confidence in the lyrics and a grand sound, presenting a deeper musical color unique to BABYMONSTER. The song delivers a thrilling excitement with its rhythmically repeating chorus, swirling rapping, and explosive vocals, constantly shifting the atmosphere.

Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER officially opened their global fandom life platform Weverse community at noon on the 1st, starting full-scale communication with fans.

Through various activities, including music program appearances, fan signing events, and an Asia 5-city fan meeting tour, they plan to expand their interaction with fans worldwide.

I'm so happy for them, it must've been so difficult and they had -still have- to face so much criticism. I really hope they're doing well, taking care of themselves and enjoying their official debut and activities. ^^

People suck. Let's face it. Many people imagine that they hate a group, but it's actually that they hate seeing someone succeed so they have this knee-jerk reaction of needing to find any way they can to drag the successful ones down. I'm not specifically talking about Babymonster but about every group that starts to see some success. When Le Sserafim's comeback was doing well, the hate train immediately came for them. ILLIT had a good debut, ppl call them New Jeans copies. And ofc everyone knows how much hate Blackpink gets for being successful. Stray Kids had a great 2023, people call them untalented. Seventeen had a great 2023 as well, they get an article falsely portraying that their TV show (Nana Tour) couldn't find viewers when it actually did extremely well, and ppl resent that a member gets exempt from military service bc of ACL injury. I dunno if being multifandom is why I don't feel hatred towards any groups, but seeing other people do that all the time is just depressing bc it's a constant reminder how crappy human nature is.
