Black Pink talked about not having a designated leader in the group.

On the July 7 airing of 'Choi Hwa Jung's Power FM', DJ Choi Hwa Jung asked the girls about their age. The girls revealed that Jisoo is the oldest and Lisa is the maknae.

Jennie added, "We don't have a leader of the group so we often look for the oldest unnie instead."

When asked why Black Pink doesn't have a leader, Jisoo explained, "We spent many years together during training and are like friends so we decided that it'll be better for us to go without a leader."

BLACKPINK is set to appear on JTBC’s “Ask Us Anything.” JTBC confirmed the news on July 8 and said, “They will be filming their episode on July 13. The broadcast date has not been set yet.” BLACKPINK’s appearance on the show was a result of Yang Hyun Suk’s efforts. On June 27, he posted a screenshot of a fan’s comment asking for the girl group to appear on the show, and added the caption, “Putting all my energy into making this happen. This is the first time I’m asking for something in 17 years.” YG Entertainment and JTBC came to an agreement, and the decision was made to get BLACKPINK on “Ask Us Anything.” The girl group has already shown off their unique personalities on shows like MBC every1’s “Weekly Idol” and SBS’s “Running Man,” and it will be interesting to see what they’ll bring to “Ask Us Anything.” [ soompi articles]

Trainee days you are friends, but the game changed after debu.

ShayMin Saturday, July 8, 2017

Whether or not they have an official leader, naturally it will happen. Naturally one of them will assume the leader role because there will be decisions that need to be made.

diela_uknow7 Saturday, July 8, 2017

I thought Jennie is the leader LOL

hiroonakamura Saturday, July 8, 2017

it's also very difficult to have a leader in a group where all members act like born followers; i.e. none of them acts like a natural born leader. Besides - the whole leader concept is so overrated. Only in SK do they use leaders despite the fact that the agencies control the group to 95% anyway

Roslolian hiroonakamura Saturday, July 8, 2017

You still need a leader because when you greet you need someone who will count off so members greet at the same time. During interviews a lot of the questions are generally asked for the group, somebody needs to answer for the whole team. Leaders can also organize opinions of the group and express them to mgt. Decide rules of the group like cleaning duties etc. The reasons why you need a leader are endless.

hiroonakamura Roslolian Sunday, July 9, 2017

You can just pick someone to always count off. Dont need a leader for that. You can also have the best 1-2 speakers always handle the media - no need for a specific leader there either. just look at how ALL the non-korean bands do this without having a leader. Regarding the opinion thing - did you know that at A-Pink the leader doesnt do that at all? Instead it is the most vocal and fearless member who does it, Eunji. As evidenced - no need for a leader there either. Anyone can step up for any of the tasks you just mentioned.

Roslolian hiroonakamura Sunday, July 9, 2017

Your reasoning is pretty dumb, obviously there won't be any need for a leader if you take all the tasks a leader is supposed to do and distribute it to all the members. It's like saying there is no need for a main vocal if all the members take turns being lead vocal in the song or no need for a rapper if all the members rap during the song. What you are saying is, hey I have here 5 reasons why a leader is needed, but let's all assign it to somebody else and then say a leader isn't needed. That's like saying you don't need a mechanic, just get a guy to fix your engine, another guy to check your tires, another guy to change the oil etc. Why go through all that trouble unless you specifically hate having a leader on the team? That's why agencies assign a leader so the members can manage themselves. You keep saying assign member 1 for this, assign member 2 for that. Who will do the assigning? The label? So every time there is a task to be done the girl group needs to contact the managers so they can assign a member to to do the task? What if members are arguing about the order to take a bath? Call the manager? What if somebody needs to take out the trash? Call the manager? In all these cases the managers will appoint somebody as a leader even if his/her only function is to mediate and help distribute the tasks to the members. Regarding APink, the leader is usually the most vocal and fearless member, in Apink's case they should have made Eunji the leader since she does the leader functions anyway. What do you mean non Korean bands don't have a leader? They always have a leader, if it's not the front man then it is somebody who sets the direction of the band, the only difference is in American bands they appoint one themselves without anybody explicitly telling them to. If you look at Blink 182 for example, the drummer is obviously in a lesser position than the two other guys, in fact they split because Hoppus and Tom had different directions for the band and thus had a falling out. Now the members of Blink 182 is Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and some new dude. Do you think they don't have a leader or is Mark Hoppus the leader since he is the one who writes the songs and also speaks for the band and sets their direction? A girl group is just like any company, there are companies with no leaders or CEO but that is rare because with nobody setting direction and overseeing the vision, the company or girl group will split in different directions and be all over the place.

but my point is that none of the tasks you mentioned are actually "leader tasks". They are tasks that anyone can do - it's just that for some reason you think only leaders can do them. If they were in fact only tasks that leaders can and should do, then how come no group outside of Korea hae leaders and yet they perform all of the tasks you mentioned by dividing it up the way I mentioned?

hiroonakamura Roslolian Sunday, July 9, 2017

Have you heard about the leader in limp bizkit? Linkin Park? Aerosmith? Rolling Stones? Beatles? 1 Direction? No? That's because they dont have a leader...

Roslolian hiroonakamura Monday, July 10, 2017

Who said they are only tasks leaders can do? Of course everyone can do them, but for an agency it is much simpler to assign one of the members to be the leader and let them manage themselves. Again your argument is pretty stupid, you are just against having a leader so jump through all these hoops just so the team will not have a leader. Why is there a need to divide the task yourself when you can just get someone to do those for you or facilitate the division? Why will agencied make more work for themselves when it is more efficient to just have 1 point of contact? You obviously have no idea what you are talking about, even students in class have a class president or companies have a ceo if there is no need for that why will they make those positions? Linkin Park has Chester Bennington, Limp Bizkit has Fred Durst, AeroSmith has Steven Tyler etc. Etc. What do you mean every band outside korea doesn't have a leader? Do you know what being a leader means? Every group will usually have a leader even if no one appoints them because someone will step up to lead the team.

hiroonakamura Roslolian Tuesday, July 11, 2017

i think you have not understood anything I have been saying. I'm not saying that you cant have a leader - I'm saying that there's no great reason to have one as you can do just fine without one. As is evident with 99% of the groups in the world throughout the history of music. If everyone can do fine by having no official leader, then so can KOrean groups.

Roslolian hiroonakamura Tuesday, July 11, 2017

You keep saying every group outside korea doesn't have a leader, I've proven that wrong no? The leader in American bands are usually the founders and composer of the band, it doesn't mean they don't exist wtf. So are you saying Blink 182, Aero Smith don't count? What about 30 seconds to Mars, Jared Leto doesn't count? Maroon 5 with Adam Levine? All these people are the leaders of their bands. Are you just ignorant on how the world works? Even the Jackson 5 had a leader who was Joe Jackson and were their dad and manager wtf. If leaders aren't needed why would there be class presidents, student president, CEOs, club leader etc. all exist? Just think to yourself, are you smarter than every other person in history? No? Then why keep arguing that something isn't needed when even students have to elect a leader for themselves?!

hiroonakamura Roslolian Tuesday, July 11, 2017

no not really. If you create your own band - it's incomparable to a group thrown together by someone else and then electing a leader. Just not the same.

hiroonakamura Roslolian Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Also, Maroon 5's leader isnt Adam Levine. He is the frontman and almost the only famous member of the group so it is obvious why he handles a lot of the interviews. Still though, the others dont have to run things by him nor do they have to listen to anything he says (as would be a case in a kpop group where the label expects the leader to be listened to and followed).

Sineya Saturday, July 8, 2017

Jennie would be a great leader. Jisoo also would do.

donnycosmo Saturday, July 8, 2017

Maybe not officially, but I initially got the impression that Jennie was, and I think she also trained the longest?

gigi9 donnycosmo Saturday, July 8, 2017

Yh she did, she's like a senior, she mentioned how she always helped the new members adjust

MsArchetype Saturday, July 8, 2017

I could have SWORN Jennie was the leader

jeyjin Saturday, July 8, 2017

That explains why they looked at each other on weekly idol when it was time to talk about their new single lol
