In yet another case of unexplained, unexpected news, rookie actress Kim Joo Hyun has been dropped from the lead female role of the upcoming SBS drama 'My Sassy Girl'.

Back in June, SBS held Korea's first ever public auditions to choose the right actress that viewers wanted to see for the female lead role, who'd be acting opposite male lead Joo Won in the drama remake of the popular film. Rookie actress Kim Joo Hyun earned the honor against 1,800 competitors, earning congratulations from everyone anticipating the drama.

However, the drama's producers relayed a sudden change of plans on August 4. Some are attributing the change to South Korea's newly placed THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) system. The drama started out as a dual, Chinese-Korean production, but due to China's stance on the policy after the THAAD announcement, previous ties have been broken, and 'My Sassy Girl' will continue as a Korean drama production instead.

The production team has yet to determine who will replace Kim Joo Hyun. Stay tuned for updates.

Supposedly, the actress stepped down on her own because of the "burden" she faced from starring in a big drama as a lead actress. So Oh Yeon-Seo has replaced her now.

that thaad reason makes no sense. she is korean.

It's basically their "good reason" to drop an actress they didn't want from the start.

I am thinking KIM JI WON would really fit the role tho~ <3 <3

That actually sounds like an amazing idea! And I can totally picture her with Joo Won.

They already replaced her with Oh Yeon-Seo.

Maybe because My Sassy Girl 2 was a big failure who knows.

I watched My Sassy Girl 2 and it was horrible. As much as I like Victoria, she couldn't save the movie.

no , her sister

if this is about THAAD, then my guess is that they lost partial finiancal aid and now fear that, casting an unknown acress, wont bring in any money, so they want a bigger name, who would bring in ratings. its really unfair towardss the girl who won the contest and now is being cut from getting her "award".

You hit the nail with this comment.

False alarm. She actually quit the production cause of burden playing her first main role. Please ignore my earliest comment. News from Soompi

here's me trying to make sense of it. Now that there is less production money, they cannot afford to star an unknown. A more high profile lead actress would bring in more money--money lost with China pulling out.

Wait, I'm confused as to why she was dropped.  Is she half-Chinese?  Or was she contracted under a Chinese label or something?

greenbrick ashleymarie Thursday, August 4, 2016

No. Maybe they want to replace her with some idol for better export while Chinese company was ok with one famous lead.
