Certain record labels often have a distinct musical signature or energy that characterizes their artists. It's not so much a stereotype, but rather a recognizable 'brand sound' or aura that their artists exude. But, have you ever encountered a group and instinctively thought, "They definitely belong to X label!" only to find out you're mistaken?
Here are some groups that fans think that they give off the vibe of a different company than their actual one!
Seventeen; SM
Fans are saying that personality-wise, because of how goofy and wholesome they are, they could easily be mistaken as an SM group. Some even say that they're the 3rd generation version of Super Junior. On top of that, their strong vocal talent screams SM as it is a trait SM artists are famously known for!
ITZY; YG
When they're not doing their cutesy or super bright concepts, they can definitely pull off being a YG girl group. With their confident, model-like visuals and the amount of swag they have, it's no wonder why some fans were confused, thinking they were from YG!
XG; YG
YG is known for their hip-hop, and yes, XG does a lot of R&B, but their styling and vibe just... screams very much YG. And maybe it's the name too... having people confused thinking that they are from YG.
Kiss of Life; YG
This one's not really that surprising, considering the girls have mentioned that they have been greatly influenced by YG artists, such as Blackpink, 2NE1, and BigBang. And the similarities they have with Blackpink would be hard to miss, such as both groups being 4-member girl crush groups and they have one Thai member as well.
TripleS; SM (NCT U)
In general, they give off the whole HYBE/Ador vibe, similar to NewJeans, but with their concept of having members rotate between the group, units, and solo for every promotion, it reminds us so much of NCT U!
IVE; SM
A fan mentioned that when they first heard IVE's song, "Eleven," they thought the group was an SM group because the song feels like something SNSD would do, and honestly, with the girls' solid vocals and ethereal visuals, it's easy to get confused too!
(G)I-DLE; YG
If you're familiar with YG sounds and not so with who these girls are, you'd easily mistake them for being YG artists. Musicality, Soyeon's unique voice as a rapper, their over-the-top concepts, and overall visuals just scream YG.
NMIXX; SM
Fans say that NMIXX is the most JYP-coded girl group and their 'change-up' is certainly different than how SM songs are, but it was during "Love Me Like This" and "Party O'Clock" where fans thought that these girls have that "SM vibe" to them. Because of the strong vocals and princess-like visuals, especially Sullyoon and Kyujin.
Every group apparently boils down to an SM-type or YG-type group. Lol.
