K-netizens react to the rumors of BLACKPINK's Jisoo and Jennie launching their own entertainment labels

The entertainment industry has been abuzz over the contract renewal of one of the most popular K-pop groups, BLACKPINK.

About a week ago, it was reported that Rosé was the only member among the four members who renewed her contract with YG Entertainment. Since then, all attention has been focused on the future of BLACKPINK, which is one of the most influential girl groups in the music industry.

Fast forward to September 25 when rumors stated that Jisoo and Jennie are aiming to launch their own entertainment labels instead of signing with an already established one.

In response, YG Entertainment stated, "There has been no confirmation made as of yet, regarding the [contract] renewal and future activities of BLACKPINK."

With this latest statement and rumor, K-netizens are gathering in various online communities to share their opinions on the rumors. While some support the two idols, some believe it might not be a pragmatic approach for the girls.

They commented, "I still support the girls," "I think setting up their own agency is better than staying with YG," "Good," "Good for them," "I guess the condition of the YG contract wasn't that good," "I think it's easier for them to continue group activities if they have their own companies," "congrats on escaping YG," "I don't think we need to worry about them setting up their own labels. If anything, they can join another label later," and "I think they'll take care of themselves."

On the other hand, netizens commented, "I never seen anyone become that successful after setting up their own company," "I wish they don't set up their own company," "I don't think setting up their own company is a good idea," "What's going to happen to BLACKPINK? If they all separate, then it's going to be hard to continue their group activities," "I'm worried about their own companies but they're superstars so it's okay I guess," and "Is setting up their own labels a good idea?"

"I never seen anyone become that successful after setting up their own company,"

Yes and no, really depends on the artist since Zico had the highest selling song of the year after establishing his own label and Kang Daniel continues to have a popular solo career despite running his own label. At the end of the day Jennie and Jisoo only have their visuals for currency and obviously it is only a matter of time before that runs out and they are seen as boomer millennials since not everyone can be a IU or Yoona past their 30s in this industry.

Chances of failure are really high. We have all seen it before. Wonder Girls Yubin, Rain, Hyolin, and the list goes on. I have not seen them have another really successful act on their own agency. And all these idols had their talents to rely on, unlike Jennie and Jisoo. Their success was heavily based on YG’s influence and mediaplay. Good luck for them on making it without YG. Well, at least their future will be brighter than Rose’s. If BabyMonster will be successful, and I’m sure they will, she’ll be stuck in YG’s basement like Bom was stuck after 2ne1’s disbandment
