JTBC's upcoming drama 'Behind Your Touch' starring Han Ji Min and Lee Min Ki, is under controversy even before the first episode.
The drama is facing backlash for 'lacking sensitivity to gender recognition' as the female lead character is seen "sexually harassing men" by touching their butts without permission.
Earlier last month, JTBC posted the trailer for the upcoming drama through their official YouTube channel. In the teaser, the female lead character, played by Han Ji Min, is a veterinarian who can see the past life of her animal patients when she touches their bottoms. However, this superpower expanded to humans, and in the trailer, she is seen touching various men's butts.
The drama is under scrutiny for a plot that revolves around a character who touches individuals' rear ends to unveil their histories. The controversy deepens as the female lead often finds herself going to great lengths to make contact with men's buttocks. Additionally, she is seen saying the line, "My hand is innocent."
Many are criticizing the drama for lacking sensitivity, romanticizing sexual harassment, and portraying misandry even before the drama premiered.
Netizens are commenting, "The directors, cast, and production team would have had to kneel and apologize if they created a drama where the male lead goes around touching female butts," "This is such disgusting plot," "I wonder what would have happened if the lead character was male," "Are they out of their minds? Why not write a drama about a man who has special powers when he goes around touching women's chests," "Han Ji Min is such a good actress. This is so unfortunate," "I think they need to study up on gender sensitivity," "What kind of story is this?" "Basically saying, it's okay to sexually harass men," and "I can't shield the drama this time."
The drama will air every Saturday and Sunday evenings on JTBC at 10:30 PM KST, and the first episode will be released on August 12.
That sounds rather unpleasant, it is NOT OK to go around touching other people without their permission, anywhere on their bodies. I don't know why anyone would have thought this drama is a good idea, it sounds awful.
