Fun Events and Festivals to Check Out in Korea!

1. Sinchon Water Gun Festival
Located right outside of the Yonsei University campus, the water gun festival is a unique tradition for people of all ages and nations to join. This festival is a wild and fun way to stay cool in the summer heat.
2. Buyeo Lotus festival
Located around Seodong Park this festival celebrates the resilient beauty of the lotus flowers. There are many events such as the opening performance, shows, and parades as well as hands-on activities such as arts and crafts revolving the lotus flower theme. Surrounding the lotus festival location are other popular tourist destinations such as Baekje Wangneungwon, Nakhwaam, and the Baekje Historical Museum.
3. Boryeong Mud Festival
Probably one of the most unique festivals in Korea, the Boryeong Mud Festival is definitely one that has attracted the attention of fans worldwide. Events such as mud obstacle course, marathon, slide, and so much more, visitors immerse themselves completely in mud and the joy of sharing a unique experience with so many other people.
4. Jindo Sea Parting Festival
Located on Jindo Island in Jeollanam-do, the sea parts in a way that visitors can walk through from the main island to the island nearby. Visitors can experience the miracle sea road and other performances that showcase the Legendary Story of Grandmother Ppong and much more. Visitors can collect abalone and take part in various activities such as the Jindogae Dog Experience of Jindo traditional alcohol tasting.
5. Hampyeong Butterfly Festival
Not only do visitors get to learn more at ecology but they also get to walk through the beautiful roads of Hampyeong "following the butterflies."
6. Damyang Bamboo Festival
Located right near the beautiful bamboo forest of Damyang, visitors get to take part of various activities that test their skills while appreciating the simple beauty and functionality of the bamboo plant. Visitors can take part in things such as the Log Rafting and Water Bicycling or taste Damyang's famous cuisines. This festival gives visitors the opportunity to take part in traditional bamboo based activities like rafting, sword cutting, and making Daetongsul, a bamboo bottled traditional liquor.
7. Muju Firefly Festival
Muju is a natural habitat for fireflies and the marsh snails the fireflies feed on. This festival offers many attractions and activities for participants that can be found on their website. Come experience the pure and beautiful experience as fireflies light up the night sky.
8. Jinju Lantern Festival
The Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival started as a lighting custom used during the Jinjuseong Fortress battle in 1592 to prevent Japanese troops from entering the Namgang River. At this festival, visitors can take part in the floating of lanterns carrying their wish along the Namgang river as well as witness the gaejesik, the lighting of lanterns in remembrance of the Jinjuseong Fortress Battle veterans. This beautifully lit event allows for a lot of traditional and cultural involvement.
9. Boseong Green Tea Festival
Boseong is the largest producers of tea in the country. This festival allows for many hands-on experiences like tea picking, tea making, tea bowl/food making, sampling snacks, and much more. There is also the Tea Art festival and Hanbok fashion show that visitors can check out as well.
10. Seoul Lantern Festival
The Seoul Lantern Festival started in 2009 as one of the representative festivals in Seoul. This festival gathers about 3 million visitors every year as they gather to see the beautiful lanterns spread along the Cheonggyecheon Stream. Guests can participate in making lanterns and floating wish lanterns as well!
