The Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival started as a lighting custom used during the Jinjuseong Fortress battle in 1592 to prevent Japanese troops from entering the Namgang River. At this festival, visitors can take part in the floating of lanterns carrying their wish along the Namgang river as well as witness the gaejesik, the lighting of lanterns in remembrance of the Jinjuseong Fortress Battle veterans. This beautifully lit event allows for a lot of traditional and cultural involvement.

The Seoul Lantern Festival started in 2009 as one of the representative festivals in Seoul. This festival gathers about 3 million visitors every year as they gather to see the beautiful lanterns spread along the Cheonggyecheon Stream.
