Recently, it's been come to light through SNS that Korean customers are being wronged at certain restaurants in Japan.

Certain restaurants in Japan have been overloading wasabi into Korean customers' orders of sushi. At first, Korean customers thought it was just what the restaurant did, but as the SNS posts blew up, it became clear that Korean customers were being discriminated against in these restaurants.

'SNL Korea 8' put their two cents into the anger rising from Korean citizens. During their 8th episode, Yoo Se Yoon and Ahn Young Mi visited a sushi restaurant, where they were treated with sushi packed with wasabi. When Yoo Se Yoon asked, "Is sushi supposed to be this spicy?", Kwon Hyuk Soo, parodying the sushi chef, said, "Korean people should just stuff their mouths with this much wasabi." Ahn Young Mi countered with, "Did you put this much wasabi on purpose?". and Kwon Hyuk Soo answered, "How dare you low Koreans try to eat sushi, which is for Japanese people? Koreans should just stuff their mouths with dwenjang and kimchi."

In the skit, Kim Joon Hyun came to the rescue, scooping up the wasabi-sushi without any problems and flustering the sushi chef. Kim Joon Hyun said, "I'm Jongro's food fighter Muk Doo Han."

What do you think of the situation and the parody?

Chinese tourist constantly go to that restaurant asking the chef to put more wasabi on their sushi, the owner already apologize for the mistake.

Soon there won't be any people alive who were actually involved in the conflict. Why are current generations working so hard to keep the hate alive?

Would you tell the Jews to forget about the holocaust because all the people affected are too old or dead?

Where did I say that they should forget about it? I said current generations have no reason to hate each other. I don't hate German's for bombing London. I would NEVER treat a German I'd only just met with contempt for something that went down decades ago and has nothing to do with them.

People on both sides need to grow the fuck up! Not all Japanese hate Koreans and not all Koreans hate Japanese. I wish that more people could be like my partner who is Japanese and her best friend who is Korean. My partner's great grandfather was a POW guard in WWII, yet the both of them can get on just fine as they understand history and the fact that not everyone is racist or ignorant!

and before anyone says "You don't understand Korean history". My Grandfather fought in the Korean War voluntarily as part of 41 Commando of the British Royal Marines. My family are directly linked to Korean history and it is a subject that has interested my greatly.

I thank him for his service but the Korean War is almost irrelevant to the relationship between Korea and Japan. It actually improved relations because Japan helped station troops and economically assisted Korea during the war. I think lacing a customer's sushi is tad more worse than people taking the piss on "SNL".

I only said that because people in the past have accused me of not knowing anything about Korean history. If reports are true that the restaurant did this to all foreigners as they frequently get asked to add extra wasabi. Then I can sympathise with them to some degree as it would've just been an honest mistake. But they are guilty of not showing enough attention to their customers' needs and just assuming that all foreigners want the same. Which is poor customer service. But at the same time if they targeted Koreans then they deserve to go out of business because that just isn't intelligent or funny.

Enjoy the trip :) Not all Japanese people behave in this manner. And with the number of Koreans who visit Japan without incident, this really does seem like an isolated incident. It could be malicious (which I would find surprising because that would be business suicide) or it could just be a genuine mistake on the restaurant's part...

That's why kaiten sushi restaurants are a good place to visit. Because a lot of them you order form a touch screen and you can request no wasabi/extra wasabi.

I feel like Korea and Japan are always doing tit-for-tat hating and shading. None of it is right but than two wrongs won't make a right. Unless they enjoy these back and forth.
