In the midst of numerous reports of Korean tourists receiving racially-charged attacks in Japan, some Koreans are bringing up a video of a Japanese woman getting verbally attacked.

Uploaded earlier this year, Japanese BJ (broadcast jockey or streamer) Rika was live streaming her program on AfreecaTV (similar to Twitch), where she had a segment featuring "phone dates" with her viewers. Rika is Japanese but she streams her shows on the Korean platform, to a mainly Korean audience.

One viewer called in and started to hurl racial insults to Rika. He said, "Say, 'Dokdo is Korea's, you crazy bxxxx," "Why are you broadcasting to Korea, you Jap," "Why do Japanese people talk like re*****," and "you're a monkey!"

The attack lasted for 9 minutes, and her viewers, who could comment live in the chatbox, expressed their anger and concerns. Rika comforted her audience by saying that she doesn't get hurt, but many were still outraged, asking the BJ to file a lawsuit against the caller.

Netizens who are just learning about this past incident are leaving comments like, "I am embarrassed. I apologize on behalf of Koreans," and "He is a loser."

Rika herself left a comment on the viral video on YouTube, saying, "I am okay...I still really, really like Korea."

I guess the current Japanese people are used to this kind of assault. You can't really mount a defense or be rude because they all start bringing up the past and you can't really win. Just have to ride it out I guess.

I love she even defended the guy in the end by saying that he must have had a bad day. And that's how real adults handle confrontation, kids!

Finally koreans start to open their eyes about what is right and what is wrong. All that wasabi terror is because of korea themselves if they don't bring up any controversy all the terror experienced by korean in japan won't happen

It's not that they're "finally" opening their eyes. There has always been good Korean people who know right from wrong. Don't let the negative make you think that it overruns Korean society.

Oh. You are serious. First of all, if you're going to act high and mighty, proper grammar gets your point across a lot better. I suggest you look check out an English textbook. Secondly, prejudice against a different culture is classified as racism. If you had spent some time too look up definitions before you commented, you would've realised this. Racism encompasses more than just derogatory terms thrown at another race. You best educate yourself before you comment, friend.

let me leave this here: ,,,Merriam Webster definition : rac·ism ˈrāˌsizəm/ noun noun: racism the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Again i know what im talking about. Just stop you and the 10 people who downvoted my comment are proving to be 100 percent stupid.

Technically they are not. Japanese and Korean are both nationality and race (and language, and ethnicity/culture). I am Singaporean, therefore Asian, but my race is Malay. Indians and Chinese are also Asians but they are of different race. So a Japanese dissing a Korean (and vice versa) can be considered both racism and xenophobia which in this case is both because the Rika is Japanese and the caller was saying about how she was broadcasting on Korean site and all. :)

Nationality is the country you are born in and/or hold citizenship to. So a Nigerian person born in Korea is nationally a Korean person. But ethinically, that person is Nigerian. By race, he/she is black. I'm ethnically Korean, American by birth and citizenship, and by race, Asian. Singaporean is a multi-racial and multi-cultural country like the US, except with less variety. You're Singaporean by birth and citizenship. By race, you're Asian. Ethnically, you would be Malay. And yes, a Japanese or a Korean person making derogatory statements is considered to be racism. Racism isn't only racial. It's abusive behavior against people based on their race, national, OR ethnic background.
