66th Grammy Awards: K-pop artists absent from nominations list

AKP STAFF

At the prestigious 66th Grammy Awards, set to be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles (LA), USA, on February 4th (local time), no K-pop artist has been nominated this year

Leading the nominations for this year's Grammy Awards is SZA, who has been nominated in nine categories, including 'Album of the Year' and 'Record of the Year'. Other notable nominees include Victoria Monet, Jon Batiste, boygenius, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift, who are all set to capture the global music audience's attention.

However, the absence of K-pop artists, including BTS, from the list of nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards has been a disappointment to global listeners. BTS, in particular, has been nominated for the 'Best Pop Duo/Group Performance' category for three consecutive years, starting three years ago, but has yet to secure a win. The fact that they, along with other K-pop artists, failed to make it to the nomination list this year has heightened the sense of regret among their international fanbase.

Especially since BTS has won trophies at the other two major American music award ceremonies, the 'Billboard Music Awards' and the 'American Music Awards', their absence from the Grammy nominations feels particularly disappointing.

It's been a few years since many A.R.M.Ys gave up on the idea that BTS must win a Grammy to be respected in the industry by their peers.

I'm one of those who sees BTS's success like this: for me as a fan, "confirmation" or "validation" is when I see or hear someone say how BTS has impacted their life and helped them to make major life decisions for the better. That's validation for me, and many of us feel the same way.

Awards, whether Korean, Japanese, American or other, are wonderful (as fans) and above all good for them because their work is recognized, but they shouldn't be the focus for us fans. The focus should be BTS's impact on people's lives and their works.

I live by this philosophy with several artists I listen to who haven't even received a single Grammy nomination themselves, and that's okay.

Some of us should slow down with this obsession to see BTS win a Grammy.
