Korean netizens react to how the word 'nugu' changed meaning among international K-pop fans

AKP STAFF

Korean netizens recently noticed a change in how the word "nugu" is used among international K-pop fans, drawing interesting reactions.

In Korean, "nugu" (누구) translates to "who" in English. However, within the context of K-pop internationally, it has taken on a different meaning, referring to lesser-known or rookie artists who are not widely recognized in the industry.

On January 27th, a netizen translated variations of the word "nugu" and made a post about it on a popular online community. The post included Nugu, Nuguness, A bunch of nugus, Nuguest nugu of all nugus, Nugued, Nuguism, Nugu era, Nuguing, Nugudom, and Nugu company.

Many Korean netizens found it amusing and shared their reactions in the comments such as: "I find 'a bunch of nugus' the most hilarious."

"lol some international fans take this too far and think people are roasting idols when they say nugu. 'nugu' literally means 'who'"

"lmao it's amazing how language evolves"

"'Nuguest nugu of all nugu' sent me lmaoo"

"Nugu company omfg lol"

"I found this hilarious from a while back lol"

"No but 'nugu era' makes so much sense lolol"

"I want to show this to an English major lol"

You can downvote me all you like, I don't give a damn, but I will say this:

ANYONE who use the word "nugu" to discredit/insult ANY Kpop group or singer, is an idiot and a fake Kpop/Music fan! The fact that people use this word means, they don't know shit about the music industry, and they ONLY interested in overhyped, mainstream singers/groups! Not to mention, they use this word to feel better, especially when a so called "nugu" makes better music and perform better than their faves.
