New report reveals G-Dragon was all set to re-sign with YG Entertainment and why he changed his mind

The reason G-Dragon changed his mind to part ways with YG Entertainment and sign with Galaxy Corporation has been revealed.

On December 22, Sports Seoul reported that the decisive factor behind G-Dragon choosing to join Galaxy Corporation instead of staying with YG Entertainment was because of the handling of the 'drug allegation' incident.

According to the report, G-Dragon was all set to sign a renewal exclusive contract with YG Entertainment for the release of his album. However, G-Dragon became embroiled in the drug allegation controversy during that period.

At that time, YG Entertainment released a statement saying, "It's difficult to officially respond as he's not an artist belonging to our company." One music industry insider speculated, "From YG Entertainment's perspective, it would have been challenging to support G-Dragon while Yang Hyun Suk was under prosecution investigation."

It was revealed that Galaxy Corporation stepped in when G-Dragon could not provide an official response. Galaxy's CEO, Choi Yong Ki, who has a close relationship with G-Dragon, actively protected the artist and provided legal advice during the drug suspicion period.

Subsequently, reports surfaced in various media outlets about G-Dragon signing an exclusive contract with Galaxy Corporation. Upon learning this, Yang Hyun Suk allegedly expressed anger and proposed to G-Dragon to "Settle the relationship with Galaxy and sign a (renewal) contract (with YG)." However, G-Dragon proceeded to sign the contract with Galaxy Corp. The media added, "G-Dragon's significant dissatisfaction with YG played a considerable role."

In the end, YG Entertainment conveyed, "We sincerely wish for a blessed new start. We ask for the support and encouragement of the fans." This statement was reportedly the result of discussions between Yang Hyun Suk and G-Dragon.

with how YG is mismanaging their artists, one would say they got into the entertainment industry yesterday and not decades ago.

That was also my thought. If I were in the same situation as GD, I would have experienced it as a betrayal, especially after all these years of good and loyal service. That he won't renew his contract after this is a relief. In recent years YG has proven to be a label that knows how to make money but doesn't understand anything about management.
