BTS' V Soars to Solo Stardom as 'Layover' sets a new Hanteo Record as the highest-selling album by a solo artist for first day sales

AKP STAFF

BTS' V became a million-seller on the day of the release of his first solo album 'Layover.'

According to Hanteo Chart, V's physical album 'Layover,' released at 1 PM on September 8, sold approximately 1.02 million copies of the regular version and around 310,000 copies of the Weverse version by 5:07 PM on the same day.

It eventually accumulated a whopping 1,672,138 copies sold on its first day, setting a new impressive record among solo acts. With this, V's album 'Layover' now holds the highest-selling album in Hanteo history by a solo artist in first-day sales. The record was previously set by his bandmate Agust D (SUGA), just last April with 'D-DAY,' which had 1.07 million units sold on the first day.

Interestingly, all three solo artists who have achieved over one million sales on the release day are members of BTS. SUGA’s 'D-Day' sold 1,072,311 copies, while Jimin's 'FACE' sold 1,021,532 copies on release day.

V's 'Layover' is projected to ascend to the top ranks of the U.S. Billboard Main Album Chart, 'Billboard 200.'

While SUGA's 'D-Day' and Jimin's 'FACE' albums faced heavy competition from American country star Morgan Wallen's album 'One Thing At A Time,' they still ranked high.

V’s biggest competitor on the ‘Billboard 200’ chart now is American pop star Olivia Rodrigo, who released her second studio album 'GUTS' on the same day.

Both V and Rodrigo caught significant attention due to their involvement at the 64th Grammy Awards. While BTS performed their hit song "Butter," V playfully approached Rodrigo in the audience, creating an unforgettable moment that the UK's BBC highlighted as one of the "Five stand-out moments of the 2022 Grammy Awards."

The album 'Layover' comprises six songs: the title track "Slow Dancing," along with pre-release tracks "Rainy Days," "Love Me Again," "Blue," "For Us," and a bonus track entitled "Slow Dancing (Piano Ver.)"

Showcasing a fascinating mix of jazz, gospel, pop, R&B, and more, the album presents a diverse auditory experience. The aim was to create a relaxed ambiance, particularly with "Slow Dancing," which features soothing flute sounds towards the end.

Moreover, the project saw the involvement of Min Hee Jin - the acclaimed CEO responsible for propelling sensational 4th generation girl group NewJeans to stardom – as the overall producer, adding further intrigue to the album's anticipation and subsequent success.

Couldn't be more proud of Kim Taehyung! He worked so hard and so sincerely to produce an album that was quintessentially him! The music, the lyrics, the message, the visuals - they all worked together perfectly to tell the most beautiful story! When I think about what the journey to this moment has entailed...the delays, the sabotage, the frustrations, the fighting we had to go through to ensure he got fair treatment...it was all worth dealing with just to hear Taehyung's sweet, melodic voice belting out through my speakers and see his proud but shy smile whenever he talked about his first album! It really gets me so emotional because that's all we as his fans want..for him to be able to produce the kind of art he is proud of and to receive the love and acclaimation he deserves. Love him so much! Congratulations Taehyung! You did it! ❤️ 👏 🎉🥳
