On August 10 KST, veteran singer Yoon Do Hyun of the rock band YB opened up about his 3-year battle with cancer for the first time.

Sharing a rare photo of himself dressed in a hospital gown, Yoon Do Hyun began, "I remember it was a very hot summer in 2021, right about when we started rehearsing for the musical 'Gwanghwamun Love Song'. After a health checkup, I was suddenly faced with the word 'cancer'. The exact diagnosis is gastric MALT lymphoma. Even though they said it's a type of cancer known to yield good results after treatment, at the time, I was honestly shocked. Very much so. However, I accepted it, I put my head back on straight and decided that I would receive treatment diligently." 

The singer continued, "Two weeks of drug treatments ended in failure. So I agreed to radiation therapy and went to the hospital every single morning for a little less than a month, undergoing some difficult treatment." 

Yoon Do Hyun then explained why he kept his illness hidden from the public for the past 3-years. "The moment I heard the word 'cancer', it felt like my vision had turned black. But I choose not to put this out into the world. Out of the concern that everyone else will fret much more than me, that my fans would be in great shock, thinking, 'The Great Yoon Do Hyun has cancer!'. I only told my parents of the fact not too long ago," the singer revealed. 

Fortunately, Yoon Do Hyun had good news to add. He said, "Two days ago, I was declared cancer-free after a 3-years struggle. It was the first time in my life that I seriously considered the idea of death. I was trapped in a mountain of thoughts, I tried crying on my own, I tried forcing a smile when the radiation therapy took a toll on my body, I tried to carry out schedules as usual, and I think out of it all, I learned some valuable lessons in life." 

Finally, the singer wrote, "On my first day of radiation therapy, I took a single photo thinking that if I'm ever cured of this thing, I would share the good news with everyone and spread hope, and now I'm grateful that day has come. I would like to deliver my thanks to all those who helped with my treatment and to all who prayed for me." 

Even while struggling with cancer, Yoon Do Hyun appeared on various TV programs in the past 3 years, including as a judge for the JTBC competition 'Sing Again 2' from 2021 through 2022. In May of 2022, the singer made his return as a DJ for the MBC FM4U radio show '4 O'clock with Yoon Do Hyun'.
