Covers by K-Pop Idols and groups you might have missed in the first half of 2023

Whether you're a newly initiated fan or a seasoned K-Pop aficionado, it's undeniable that the vibrant world of K-Pop, with its catchy tunes and electrifying beats, can be utterly infectious. It compels you to sway with the rhythm, irrespective of your dance proficiency, and may even inspire you to explore new hobbies, such as music production or songwriting.

K-Pop's dynamic landscape, marked by the constant release of fresh content from idol groups or soloists, ensures that there's always a novel delight awaiting fans. Covers, in particular, hold a special place in the heart of K-Pop enthusiasts. A favorite song given a fresh spin by an admired artist or group often resonates deeply with fans, sometimes even serving as the gateway to discovering a new favorite group.

The choice of covers varies significantly among idols or artists in the industry, with some fortunate ones having the opportunity to handpick the songs they wish to reinterpret for their fans. This act is not only a display of their artistic prowess but also a testament to their own fandom and a tribute to the idols they look up to.

The year 2023 has been particularly prolific in terms of cover releases, providing a plethora of versions for fans to savor and discover new favorites. If you are just getting into K-Pop and or have been a fan of K-Pop for a while it's without saying that the world of K-Pop is infectious and the addicting songs make you wanna dance even if you aren't that great, or pick up a new hobby in producing or considerably writing music.

In K-Pop and the various content's idol group's or soloists like to release on a day or schedule basis means that there is always something new for fan's to enjoy. When it comes to cover's done by your favourite K-Pop celebrities or idols, fan's would tend to mention how because of that cover they found the group or if it's done by an artist they admire it truly means a lot that the song was chosen with the artist's own colour and twist into that same performance. 

Usually cover's vary per idol or artists within the industry, some lucky idol's even getting to choose the song they want to perform and cover for their fan's and show their own fan status and honour those idols they admire themselves. Thanks to numerous releases back to back in 2023, there is loads of cover's to go through and find your new favorites, if one of your's that was released in 2023 was missed, please don't hesitate to share it below including a song recommendation from that artist in the comment's below. Even more so if the group or artist is unknown, everyone is welcome! Without further ado, let's begin! 


1. (G)I-DLE's Yuqi covering Miley Cyrus's 'Flowers'. 

This chart hitting song captured many listeners hearts as well as playlists, the catching tune making it perfect for the radio and for easy casual listening. YUQI is a member of the girl group (G)I-DLE who is not only sitting at an impressive and well deserved 6.15 Million subscribers on YouTube, but had their most recent comeback [QueenCard] hit an impressive 139 Million Views! The group also performed multiple songs at KyungHee University, Korea University, Hanyang University and KOOKMIN University! 

2. TEMPEST. 

Throughout their career TEMPEST has continually made a name for themselves with their comeback's and various content available to fan's on YouTube. On March 20th 2023, TEMPEST would release [TEMPEST HAPPY LIVE] with various songs: Seventeen AJU NICE, and (), including their own song 'Bad News'. Many of the comments mentioning the member's charisma and aura and always improving high notes. 

Following up the series, on March 13th 2023, TEMPEST would also release [TEMPEST CANDY LIVE]. 

3. Begin Again. (Sieun of StayC) 

Park Si Eun who is not only a member of the group STAYC but is also a South Korean Actress would release a cover of 'Slow Motion' on the South Korean YouTube Channel Begin Again. The YouTube channel showcases different artists within the K Industry including various video's allowing the singer's to display their talents to a new range of fan's and appreciate their hard work they put into training. 

4. Lim Jisoo. 

According to the musician's Instagram, Lim Jisoo graduated from Berklee, sang the national anthem in Korean and English in Dallas which was apart of the 2021 Texas Korean Heritage Event!

On June 9th 2023, the singer would release a cover originally performed by BABY MONSTER of Charlie Puth's 'Dangerously'. 

5. PIXY Rinji 'Sure Thing' Cover. 

On June 8th 2023, member Rinji would gift fan's with a cover of the song 'Sure Thing' by Miguel. Many of the fan's within the comment's stating her vocals are perfect for indie - r&b type songs, asking Allart Entertainment for more songs and cover's like this to properly display her talents. 

6. Kep1er. 

The members of Kep1er are not ones to shine away from a challenge such as cover's and openly take the chance to showcase their skills. Numerous member's of Kep1er released cover's in 2023 which means chances for new or casual listener's to find a cover that is perfect for your playlist giving you many options to choose from. 

7. Twice's DAHYUN. 

As shown within the video, member of TWICE DAHYUN display's her ever growing skills in vocals in her [DAHYUN MELODY Project] and released the cover of 'Good Man' originally by Adam Levine. This video was released on March 27th 2023 while also promoting their 12th mini album [READY TO BE] in the description of the video. 

8. WONPIL of Day6. 

When discussing cover's, live vocals or their favourite vocalists you might recognize Wonpil as he is a favourites amongst many individuals for a variety of reasons. Even idols like StrayKids Seungmin is a well known 'MyDay' in the K-Pop scene. 

On May 26th 2023, Wonpil would delight fan's to a cover of One Direction's 'History' which you can watch above. 

9. GIUK (Formerly CyA of ONEWE).

Known amongst his fan's for his various SoundCloud releases, the maknae and bassist of the band ONEWE's Lee Giuk would make his solo debut on April 20th 2023 with the 8 track EP: [Psycho Xybernectics: TURN OVER]. 

Previously releasing a cover of Hype Boy by NewJeans that went viral within the fanbase, Onewe would release the cover of 'Unforgiven'. 

10. OnlyOneOf Junji cover of Jimin's 'Like Crazy'.

On June 30th 2023, member Junji of OnlyOneOf would release his cover of Jimin's 'Like Crazy' (Mixed by Nine) showcasing his various abilities as a singer. 

Recently, OOO (OnlyOneOf) achieved and unboxed their 1 million subscriber play button. And surprised fan's when practicing for their stage performances of Candy bOmb and seOul drift by singing live when dancing. 

11. AB6IX JEON WOONG covering Charlie Puth x BTS JungKook 'Left and Right'. 

On June 13th 2023, member JEON WOONG would release the cover of Charlie Puth x BTS Jungkook 'Left and Right' in a cute setting and the vocals suiting the song nicely with his own aura in the performance. 

12. Jinho and Hongseok of Pentagon. 

Jinho would continue his song cover and often solo series of [MAGAZINE HO] which is currently on it's 58 episode. On June 30th 2023, Jinho would feature his fellow Pentagon member Hongseok to cover the song '나윤권' by the artist Na Yoon Kwon. 
 

13. Seventeen's DK, 'Betelgeuse' Cover. 

Although the group Seventeen can seem overwhelming to new fan's at first, fan's of the group (Cubics and Carats) often mention to check out the group's variety content such as live clip's and cover's. DK's cover of 'Betelgeuse' is no exception. 

(According to fan's in the comment's when I asked, Carats is their official fandom name and Cubics is used for casual enjoyer's or individuals who enjoy the series GOING Seventeen a variety show by SVT. Both names can be used for fan's) 

Originally worried about his pronunciation as stated by fan's in the comment's and in WeVerse, DK happily meet's fan's expectations and praises the idol for choosing the song to cover to share with all fan's including international fan's. 

14. VIXX KEN, 'Cupid' Cover. 

#14 Last but not least is VIXX's KEN (Lee Jae Hwan) who previously rebranded his Youtube Channel would give fan's a cute cover of FIFTY FIFTY's 'Cupid' on June 12th 2023. The member's of VIXX recently signed new contracts and the three members Ken, Hyuk and Leo released the single 'Gonna be Alright' including a fan meeting to connect with their fans (Starlight) for the first time in a while and perform their songs for them. Ken, Hyuk and Leo were previously see performing at music shows of their old hits like Voodoo Doll.

A lot of great covers! I especially love ONEWE's Giuk covering Hype Boy, as well as OnlyOneOf's Junji covering Like Crazy.
