Former idol and Co-ed School member Cha Joo Hyuk has been sentenced in regard to his misuse of drugs and alcohol.

The Seoul Central District made a settlement sentencing Cha Joo Hyuk to a year and six months of imprisonment, as well as a hefty fine of $4500 for violating the Act on Narcotic Management and the Act on Traffic Accident Treatment. Cha Joo Hyuk was taken into custody and was given a court trial the same day.

The court stated, "Cha Joo Hyuk has committed various drug crimes for an extended period of time, including drug trafficking as well as drunk driving, causing numerous car accidents." In response, Cha replied, "I usually cannot even drink one glass of alcohol; however, because I stopped taking my medicine I resorted to drinking. I was having a difficult time and as a result have caused an accident. I'm sorry."

Back in March and April, Cha was accused of selling ecstasy and marijuana to Mr. Kang. In August, he was accused of drinking ketamine and psychotropic medicine at a hotel in Gangnam. Then, in October, he was accused of drunk driving and ramming into three cars, which resulted in a license revocation.

I really hope he gets help, substance abuse is very serious.  He needs proper help and I hope he has the support to come through this.

JessicaRabbit123 Thursday, June 22, 2017

Sounds like he has a substance abuse problem. What happened to make him turn to such heavy drugs?

Winston Thursday, June 22, 2017

Hefty fine of $4500? even if its USD, how is $4500 a big fine, I am getting the idea that he probably made more when he sold the drugs to others, its not like he was selling ramen and made $1 profit each time only.

I would say that 1.5 YEARS in JAIL ; is not exactly trivial punishment. But I agree, that the MONEY FINE amount seems not so much.

Winston krell Thursday, June 22, 2017

Considering he sold drugs its a light sentence, the sentence for drug trafficking in countries like Singapore, Possession or consumption of cannabis aka marijuana is up to 10 years of imprisonment or a S$20,000 (USD 14,378) fine or BOTH, and Illegal traffic or import or export of cannabis, of more than 500 grams, may face the DEATH penalty. so i guess he is lucky the marijuana laws in South Korea is light in comparison to some South East Asian countries. Even if its just sale of ecstasy, the penalty is like up to 10 years of jail or S$20,000 fine or BOTH, and sale of ecstasy is 20 years of jail and 15 strokes of the cane. so i think 1.5 years is very very light in comparison.

krell Winston Friday, June 23, 2017

Yes, I agree with you about tht the JAIL TIME could be a LOT LONGER for CHA JOO HYUK. But, i am just remarking that 1.5 YEARS in PRISON seems NOT TRIVIAL to *me* personally ; just in terms of the duration.

kyc1411 Thursday, June 22, 2017

Unfortunately in Korea you get a lighter sentence if you commit a crime while under the influence. It's because you're not "yourself" and you weren't thinking right. It doesn't make sense but the justice system in Korea never made sense.

SuperFly_Snuka kyc1411 Thursday, June 22, 2017

I saw that in the movie Hope. :(

karebearsays Thursday, June 22, 2017

This boy is all over the place...smh

xeerrreex Thursday, June 22, 2017

Such a talented guy turned into this.. So sad..

Longan_Lychee Thursday, June 22, 2017

I was about to hate (because there is no excuse for DUI, I have lost close ones because of drunk drivers) but there must be something that happened that made him go this way. He needs some serious help. And lock him up in some secluded area for his therapy because he is endangering other people with his destructive behavior.

Kurare Thursday, June 22, 2017

*yikes*

ygwinner Thursday, June 22, 2017

He did all that and still a lighter sentence than TOP will ever get.

Suu.S ygwinner Thursday, June 22, 2017

What TOP did cannot even be compared with this guy .. );

Longan_Lychee ygwinner Thursday, June 22, 2017

TOP only smoked weed. This dude’s been using ketamine and hallucinogenic substances. He’s been trafficking the bad shit (not weed, but really bad shit) and on top of that drove under influence. If TOP gets heavier sentence, then there is something wrong in the justice system

sweet_goguma17 Suu.S Thursday, June 22, 2017

Smoking weed vs. drug trafficking....are you effin serious?? Lmaoo xD also like Longan_Lychee said he did way more other stuff. Did you not read the damn article. Anyways i hope he gets help. It's clear he has a substance abuse problem and possibly a mental health issue. :(

krell Longan_Lychee Thursday, June 22, 2017

I will be AMAZED if TOP does any JAIL time in his situation. I suppose that you MIGHT get a JUDGE that would put TOP in JAIL for ONE WEEK or like that. But more likely, TOP will just have to SAY in COURT that he is SORRY ; and that will pretty much end it.

Suu.S sweet_goguma17 Friday, June 23, 2017

Uhm, i dont think you got what I meant .. "TOP only smoked weed" This dude inhale illegal substance and drove under alcohol, what THIS DUDE did is waayyy more severe than TOP who only smoked weed my friend. Like @Longan_Lychee said, THAT DUDE has been using ketamine ( WHO IS NOT TOP), using hallucinogenic substances and has been trafficking drug .. I did read the damn article.

sweet_goguma17 Suu.S Friday, June 23, 2017

Wait what? OH WOOPS sorry i think i misinterpreted your comment as younsaying what TOP doesnt compare as in TOP is the one is the one that did worse LOL sorry thats how it sounded to me but i also agree with you and lychee woops ^^'

Suu.S sweet_goguma17 Friday, June 23, 2017

Hahah it's alright, I thought so too xD We're on the same boat here! But yea .. I'll hate the law in SK sooo bad if TOP ever gets more severe punishment than this dude, it'll be soo unfair ));
