SBS comedy show 'People Searching For Laughter' has upset many international fans for allowing blackface during a skit.

On the April 19 broadcast, comedian Hong Hyun Hee took part in a comedy skit. She played the daughter of the family who's an aspired comedian.

Hong Hyun Hee appears on stage with comical makeup with braids, exaggerated lipstick, and dark skin. Many international fans have pointed out that her makeup is racist blackface. Additionally, people feel there is cultural appropriation since she wore a Native American headdress as well.

Currently, the video of Hong Hyun Hee's skit on YouTube has gained more than 1,700 dislikes.

International fans expressed disappointment and anger, commenting, "When the f*ck are you guys gonna learn that this is blackface and this shit is not f*cking okay? It's racist and hurtful", "So your [sic] just gonna broadcast this in 2017 and think it's okay. This is by far the most disgusting thing I've seen this year already.", "Wow. Blackface and appropriating/ridiculing Native Americans all at once? New low. The ignorance is f*cking real."

Many are also demanding an apology from SBS for allowing such offensive content on the broadcast. However, Hong Hyun Hee's blackface has not become an issue in Korea. In fact, no one seems to find it controversial, and that in itself is the real issue.

Let us know your thoughts about the issue in the comments.

This just reminds me about the tmz video with mocking a girls accent when koreans were up in arms about it.  You would think broadcasts would be more self aware.

BigBlueagain srasinister Thursday, April 27, 2017

Difference is that when the one member of the bullpen made the remark, the rest of them KNEW she'd messed up and one Asian girl called her on it. The company did nothing. They put it out there, they supported her, they're just going to make a fake assed apology and do it again.

kaice_cream Sunday, April 23, 2017

I agree that this is wrong and unacceptable, but please don't say things about korea being a racist country or a horrible country with bad people. Because a lot of koreans do disagree with this kind of behavior (I know that a lot also don't, but let's not generalize anyway because there are koreans who think this is just as bad as we do), especially the ones who grew up in the US.

I do applaud the advances that the younger generations are forcing on the society to bring them into the 21st century. But as a whole, when the UN recognizes you as a country with a racist problem.... yanno?

kaice_cream BigBlueagain Friday, April 28, 2017

yeah it's understandable, I guess it's a matter of time before it gets better c:

InvisibleBBC02 Sunday, April 23, 2017

Wow, that's just... wow. That's straight up blackface.

centen Saturday, April 22, 2017

For the people saying "ignoring it" is a real option: when you don't say that it's wrong, you're saying that it's right.

BigBlueagain centen Thursday, April 27, 2017

Exactly.

partyfan2013 Friday, April 21, 2017

That is why there's definitely something wrong with the world today.  I feel that the entire world is just being way too damn politically correct.  Can't they at the very least learn how to ignore stuff if something like this makes them majorly cringe all the time?

Johncane partyfan2013 Saturday, April 22, 2017

then that just breeds ignorance. I mean its a clear mockery!! I'd agree with you if this was a case of her wearing a beauty mask that is all black and that caused a commotion but this is literally Black Face!

Longans_badghost partyfan2013 Saturday, April 22, 2017

Educating the ignorant is fine. Social media storms and getting offended on purpose on the other hand is so damn annoying. But you can’t always blame people to take it personally though, because mocking someones race, nationality and religion is something that will always be taken personally..

partyfan2013 Sunday, April 23, 2017

Regardless of what the both of you are saying, it's STILL political correctness in my book. So therefore, I say that those people really need to just start learning how to ignore stuff like this if it makes them cringe big time on a very personal level.

Johncane partyfan2013 Sunday, April 23, 2017

you say that but if that was the case in society things may have turned out differently for you! Having some political correctness isnt always bad

Longans_badghost partyfan2013 Sunday, April 23, 2017

Hmm.. Blackface, yellow face, red face, etc. are quite offensive to over half of this worlds population though. Requests of not doing them over and over again isn’t unreasonable. If being denied to dress up as another race and portraying false and negative stereotypes in the guise of humor and entertainment is ’’political correctness’’ then I don’t think it’s bad in this particular case. I do agree that purposely getting offended and starting social media rage and playing a white knight or a so called social justice warrior without even understanding what you’re defending, just joining the bandwagon, is more harmful than good.

Dislike me all you want, you know I'm right.

imjustme Friday, April 21, 2017

Korea is a country filled with miserable people who hate the shape of their faces, shape of their eyes, length of their noses, and color of their skin.  They find pleasure in attempting to distance their selves from another dark skinned race by mocking and making fun of that race.  Because if they can't prove to the world (or their country) that they are better than blacks--then who are they better than?  Who are they better than???

BigBlueagain imjustme Thursday, April 27, 2017

Calling out a people for being racist by being racist against that people kinda defeats the purpose, don'tcha think?

Charmingyu Friday, April 21, 2017

I FUCKING HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE TAKE RACISM EASILY. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE UNLESS YOU'VE BEEN IN A SITUATION.

OGTrashKan Charmingyu Saturday, April 22, 2017

I feel you. Being a minority is hard sometimes....

beashineeshawol Friday, April 21, 2017

I guess they keep doing it because it's not seen as a problem in Korea. Like literally every time some comedian in Korea does Blackface, it gets blasted, and yet, here we are again...

bufallobiff beashineeshawol Wednesday, April 26, 2017

S. Koreans don't owe anyone an apology. They never enslaved any black folks and trying to put "white guilt" on them is retarded...

BigBlueagain bufallobiff Thursday, April 27, 2017

Racism is racism is racism. You don't have to have 'enslaved' anyone to know it's wrong.

OGTrashKan Friday, April 21, 2017

Wow. Congrats for a new low. -_- *claps*

OGTrashKan Saturday, April 22, 2017

Why the down vote?

BigBlueagain OGTrashKan Thursday, April 27, 2017

There are assholes in this comments section that are actually defending this racist.

OGTrashKan BigBlueagain Thursday, April 27, 2017

Oh...:( Thanks for replying @BigBlueagai

Who in their right mind in korea think that this is ok? Screw them
