Super Junior's Heechul admitted he was trouble during training under SM Entertainment.

On the March 23 airing of 'Happy Together 3', Heechul was asked if he was really a rebel during his trainee years.

The idol answered, "I moved from Gangwon-do to Seoul when I was 20-years-old. I always listened to music and I told (staff noona) that I was listening to KISS' music. The noona then told me that I shouldn't listen to that kind of music but listen to Linkin Park and study. So I said, 'Noona, rock music isn't something that you can study.' She yelled at me for talking back and told me to write up an apology. I responded, 'I'm not sorry for anything but I'll do it anyway since you're telling me to'."

Heechul continued, "I got suspended often. They told me not to come for awhile and I just said ok. I used to live in dorms with Donghae and Yunho. They would ask if I really don't have to go and I said, 'They will call me when they need me'."

Heechul also admitted that he was cocky at the time, and said, "When I think about it now, it makes me cringe."

I don't think he was wrong though. Don't listen to KISS? You want him to study rock music, but don't want him to listen to KISS? How does that make any sense? If you're going to study rock music, or anything really, wouldn't you have to start from the beginning?

He was training to be an idol. Linkin Park is actually a pretty good example of modern mainstream, and the sound that was popular at the time. I think she was just telling him to look into the mainstream side, rather than the rock, since it appeals to the idol crowd better.

Linkin Park isn't exactly right for an idol group LOL and their lyrics aren't for easy listening you have to be somewhat good in the English language to appreciate their lyrics and I don't know if Heechul was already good in English when he was still a trainee. TBH I don't know why they're studying rock music as an idol group at the time they should have been looking at Backstreetboys, Nsync, Westlife, Jonasbrothers etc.

The jonas brothers weren't around when Heechul was a trainee, and if you listen to Super Junior's debut song Twins (Knockout) it was much more rocky than something the Backstreet Boys or Nsync had done.

I could understand if the staff member told him to a pop group instead. But telling him to study Linkin Park instead of KISS makes no sense. Neither are related to the type of music that the SJ would be producing. I do think that there are things that can be learned from the rock groups, such as stage presence and performance. But saying Linkin Park is relevant but KISS is not doesn't make sense.

Why do allkpop keep posting articles like this? If fans want to watch they can go watch it cuz it's a show with an hour. So what's the point in cutting it?..

Glad to see that people DO change over time, like him that realized he was cocky and now he cringes when thinks about it. And is it just me or he looks like TWICE's Chaeyong in the picture with the blonde spiky hair??????

There were a few years that he came off as aloof and uninterested. I'm glad he changed for the better.
