Mnet has spoken up to address some of the recent issue regarding the fairness of 'Hit the Stage'.

On the latest broadcast, a continuation of the past week's competition, SHINee's Taemin shocked viewers with his stellar performance and ultimately claimed the 1st win of the show. However, netizens began to question the show's fairness, pointing out that Taemin was the only competitor to perform his own song. Some claimed that Taemin had an unfair advantage performing a familiar song, while others had to practice a brand new one in a short amount of time.

Mnet has since stated, "The concept of the program is for the artists to create their own performances. We only provide the concept. We respect the artists' decisions on how they will produce their stages and performances."

In regards to song choice, they further elaborated, "The producers only provide the concept. That's the program's rule. On the recent broadcast, all of the artists were well aware that there were no restrictions on song choices."

What do you think about the issue?

so i made sure i watched the episode before commenting. but there really isn't anything unfair about using your own song. if he thought it matches his performance then so be it. but i didn't think his performance was the best this time. i thought either of the Joker performances were a lot better. they were a lot more creative, i also couldn't believe the winning margin was so high. anyhow this show is bomb so im going to keep watching regardless =)

putting aside the fact Taemin is my bias...haha .... I didn't think it was unfair. I was a bit iffy at first when I heard that he was going to perform his own song. I was wondering why and if he didn't care about the criticism he might receive. But at the same time why wouldn't he? Since the program gave the artists the freedom to do anything...the other artists had the right to choose their own song as well as choreography but no one did. So I don't really think it's unfair in regards to that. And considering that people knew that it was his song and choreography, he still risked it. I'm not sure if he had a longer time to prepare or anything, but seeing that the song sayonara hitori was just released and he needed to work with his partner in Japan, I don't it was that much of an advantage either. The judges and audience gave Taemin such a high score and I think he deserved it; it's not like the dance didn't fit the devil theme. Unlike the other performances with so many backup dancers and theatrical aspects, his emotion was completely relayed through his dance. The dance was beautiful because it was his...something he worked hard on with his own passion. I do hope to see more amazing performances from Taemin and everyone. :)
